Is US battleships worth playing? Currently have the Missispi and it’s honestly quite underwelming and a bit frustrating to play. It’s armor is a hit or miss and it’s gun do barely any damage along with a long reload.
I’ve had some success in using it but when facing a scharnhorst there’s no way of winning. My only strategy is trying to go as far as possible and snipe.
No, it’s not worth it - especially top tier USA. 5.0 can be fun, but it gets progressively more lame the higher you go. The other USA BBs are tough but have 40 sec. fire rates which makes game play about as fun as watching paint dry. The Alaska - pretty as she is - is by far the weakest of the battlecruisers. Even the completely fictitious Kronstadt (Russian, of course) spanks the Alaska. Naval is a huge letdown generally. The maps, especially, are completely ill-conceived and totally inadequate for enjoyable, challenging game play.
Missisipi is currently the best american BB so that should be pretty telling. All standard battleships suffer from bad ammorack placement and long reloads.
Man, kronstadt cope, how original. It is not much better than alaska rn but prople are still hurt about it.
Nah majority of maps are fine. Using terrain, picking right targets and cooperating with your teammates can help you
When compared to battleships from other nations, US BB are significantly much slower. From 40-50 seconds depending on crew skill. I haven’t played other nation’s bb, but I’ve noticed that i’ve been dying to secondary armaments way more than my friend who plays German battleships .
I do think maps need more work because it’s just way to small. Terrain should be used for cover/concealment but it’s should work the same way as ground battles. Coorperating with teammates is the biggest issue because everyone does whatever they want.
And not everyone grinds out coastal resulting in cap points being taken over and enemy team winning. I personally think naval needs a rework, I don’t know what exactly it needs but the current one is just terrible. I’ve always wanted a battlestation pacific like game in wt
it comes down to ammorack placement. Since it is above the waterline when your armor is cracked there is a chance of secondary shell slipping through.
There is always EC. With bigger maps all that really changes is longer time of battle. And since wt focuses on short, 10-20 minute rounds, you are not gonna see that as the main mode.
that is really problem of those people :)
hm, seems like you just want to play another game. That doesnt make wt naval terrible, it is very fun for people who want more action packed navy combat.
I guess that’s what I’m trying to say. It’s a very hit or miss armor layout. I did hear somewhere that the Mississippi is supposed to be a bit below when fully loaded but I can’t validate that claim though.
Yeah, you’re right but I didn’t really think about that since I only play nrb/ab
Well, that’s kind of a bad way of finding a solution. I can understand having coastal in low to mid tiers but when you go top tier, it’s purpose is only to cap points and nothing else. That’s like putting a capture 10km away in grb such that only wheeled vehicles can only capture that point. It just doesn’t make sense.
Warthunder isn’t known for it’s gamemodes, it’s known for it’s highly immersive and well detailed vehicle & damage models. That is why many players are drawn to this game. If it didn’t have that, it would be another world of ____ game.
right now, naval is just a very slow version of ground. warthunder has the ability make naval unique and cool but chooses not to (due to many reasons).
Thats a bad comparison. The point is to make more diverse gamepelay with a room for different vehicle classes, which feels more real imo. You can go for torpedo hunt with a coastal vessel, you can pick a gunboat to kill mtbs easier, you can always use a destroyer.
Also on top tier maps with cap points are rather rare compared to single cap circle and ai bot fleet maps. They are more prevelant on lower and mid tiers where mixed class gameplay has the most room
another bad comparison. I cannot find a single similarity between the two. again, it seems you are just playing wrong game
Everyone has a Reserve, there’s no excuse for not bringing at least that. Heck, many of the best boats for capping are near the very start of the tree.
Scout planes are also a thing on many ships, and one should have a float/seaplane from the Air tree in their lineup as well.
You are missing the point, my reasoning is that the only purpose of bringing coastal is to cap points where other ships cannot. coastal provides no strategic importance other than to capture points. In ground each type of tank has it’s own role and provides an impacts the game in it’s own ways. Even gaijin is further reinforcing this as they are going to give spaa and light tanks a logistical/defensive role. T
I understand for the game to be more diverse, however, the biggest issue with that claim is the disparity of coastal boats br when this is brought to top tier. Since you cannot grind coastal using bluewater, either you play low tier till you reach “top tier” or you pray you don’t meet top tier vehicles when you play coastal in top tier.
And like you said earlier, bringing in a destroyer can completely counters coastal (if used correctly) and going for a torpedo hunts is pointless when there are ai gunners. It is essentially a suicide run.
A third or even half the games I’ve played in top tier have been with cap points. I wouldn’t really say it’s rare. I even have the single capture points liked on the map preference.
The biggest similarity between ground is the objective at a very slow pace. I don’t know why you’re amendment on saying I want to play a different game because a lot of players don’t like the state of naval. Like I said in the beginning, war thunder is known for it’s historical accuracy and immersion, not for it’s gameplay. they should take advantage of it and make naval interesting. It doesn’t have to be a battlestation pacific like game, it could be anything, but whatever they are doing right now, is not it.
