Update 2.49.0.33

Aircraft

  • IL-28 (all variants), H-5 — “Sirena-2”/“SPO-2” RWR has been added. (Report).

Ground Vehicles

  • A bug that allowed Multi-Vehicle SAM launchers that didn’t have their own radar or IRST to launch missiles when the radar on the radar vehicle was turned off has been fixed.
  • T58 — the erroneously present artillery strike ability has been removed. (Report).

Naval Vessels

  • USS Maryland — the size of the smoke screen deployed from the OS2U-3 scout aircraft has been increased.
  • SMS Von der Tann, SMS Helgoland, SMS Kaiser, IJN Settsu, Kerch — a bug that caused the torpedo counter to display wrong values has been fixed. (Report).

Graphics

  • A bug that caused the airfield markings to not display on Ultra Low Quality has been fixed. (Report).
  • A bug on DX12 and Vulkan APIs that caused the HUD and MFDs in cockpits of some helicopters to flicker has been fixed.

VR

  • The size of the sector where tanks automatically try to keep their gun aim in has been increased from 30° to 80°. Keeping the crosshair in the player’s field of view is a mechanic that helps prevent the crosshair from being lost. (Report, Report).

Patch notes reflect only key changes, meaning they may not include a complete list of all improvements made. Additionally, War Thunder is constantly being updated and some changes may not require an update. Changes reflected in patch notes are formed by taking reactions and requests of the community from the bug reporting service, forums and other official platforms into account. Bug fixes and changes are implemented in order of importance, for example a game-breaking bug will be worked on and implemented sooner.

Hey @Stona_WT any explanation as to why the new Norge Mossies dont have a timer on them for new players to skip them and get the A21’s?

What about addressing SPAAs like the Flakpanzer 341 killing tanks very easily?

Good thing ULQ is still being worked on, despite all of the hate recently.

Glad that this finally got adressed, but sadly I have to report that it hasn’t been well thought through, and thus not been solved completely.

Now no to be misunderstood, the change was great, and I will certainly go back to play tanks more in VR, but it still has shortcomings that we VR users (and I’m not alone in my observations, as the long bug report history suggests) would hope are addressed as well:

Direction of Line od Fight (LOS)

Currently, LOS is fixed to the hull for all vehicles except SPAA’s, meaning that when you aim, the turret is moving underneath you, while you still look in the same direction as the hull. Meaning the farther away from straight ahead, you will have to turn your head and with increasing angle your whole body to follow the gun.

Mind you: you’re actually suposed to be the commander of the tank and would sit IN the turret, and thus make the same movements as said turret.

And also, in non-VR mod, the LOS of course does exactly that: follow the gun! Imagine you aim to one side, and would at the same time also have to pan the view that direction…

Now for AA vehicles, the LOS is fixed to the turret, so you move the gun, you also move your sight, which makes perfect sense, works very well, and I have so far not experienced a single situation where this would have been a cause for a problem.

Lost crosshair

That one has me a bit confused, as the way it’s written here it seems the old snap back mechanism was actually not a bug, but a feature.

Now, truth is that it’s really still easy to lose the crosshair, but that is nothing where that snap-back mechanic eve really helped much, but caused the bigger issue of not being able to use your turret rotation.

The only and really quite simple soltuion here would be to make the crosshair more visible. So while in aircraft it’s perfectly possible to select style and colour of one’s crosshair, one is restricted to two pale small circles in colours that are common in many if not most map’s colour palettes. Meaning: They’re mostly almost invisible.

Note also here that in VR headsets, resolution and contrast are much lower than on a flat screen! I’ve played both, a lot, used various screens of different sizes and resolutions, and in all cases, it’s much easier to make out objects and lines on the screen than in the VR goggles, and thus having the same low contrast, low size, pale colour crosshairs does not help at all.

I hence really urge devs to address this issue of tank aiming in VR again, and consider the issues mentioned above.

Plus there are many other issues still present: for radar/IRST locked targets for example the lock box only overlays the target in 3d view. In guner view, the lock box follows the LOS, and not the target, and is thus completely useless and use of e.g. SPAAG’s like Gepard & co. is practically impossible in VR.

Yes, there is no timer on them that allows players to skip to the A21
