History

History

The Polish–Slovak UMPG cooperation emerged from Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa’s attempts to expand the export potential of the Borsuk platform family. During the mid-2020s, PGZ began searching for foreign partners to create more flexible export configurations of Polish armored vehicles, particularly for customers interested in alternative turret systems.

In 2026, PGZ partnered with the Slovak company EVPÚ, the developer of the TURRA series unmanned turrets. The cooperation focused on integrating Slovak turret systems onto Polish platforms such as the UMPG/Borsuk tracked IFV and the Rosomak wheeled APC. The goal was to create modular export-oriented vehicles that combined Polish chassis technology with Slovak weapon systems.

The partnership was officially showcased during the IDEB 2026 defense exhibition in Bratislava. There, PGZ unveiled a UMPG/Borsuk demonstrator equipped with the Slovak TURRA 30 V-9 unmanned turret, marking the first public presentation of the joint configuration. The vehicle demonstrated the modularity of the UMPG platform and its ability to integrate foreign combat systems.

The joint Polish–Slovak offer was aimed primarily at export customers in regions such as the Middle East and Asia, where PGZ hoped the combination of the modern UMPG platform and the proven TURRA 30 turret would provide a competitive and more affordable alternative on the international armored vehicle market.
