Turn & Slip indicators on British World War 2 aircraft - does anyone got a good reading/seminar/documentary as to why they're the way they are?

I’ve decided to go and try out spitfires in test flight with sim controls properly. While setting up trim, I was kind of lost where the turn & slip indicator was.

Found it:

Spitfire"

This looks very, very, very different than any turn & slip indicator I’ve ever seen - japanese early/late war, american early/late war and even german!

Every other nation I flew has the classic ball in a tube (japan, u.s, germany, ussr. Also checked g55s for italy and yep)

Bf109

This seems to persist with the hurricanes too, and even bombers!
Obviously not in game whatwith the state of bomber cockpits but…

This museum image of the wellington has the same weird indicator.

I tried googling, but all I found was antique sellers and not like, a discussion on what led to Britain having so different designs to seemingly all the other major players of WW2.

So now I’m curious, and hoping people on this forum might have some media they can recommend me on why this is.
