Try Out “Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses” Again This Weekend!

Last week, we introduced a short test for a new mode called “Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses” (SEAD). We saw your enthusiasm, and today we’re happy to be bringing it back for the weekend with some changes and additions mainly based on feedback!

When: From May 2nd (14:00 GMT) until May 5th (04:00 GMT)

You can access the event from the hangar through: Events & Tournaments → Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses

If you missed the first test and would like to catch up on everything regarding this mode, then be sure to check out the original news post below.

Changes from the first test

The way it plays will be the same as the first test, with the exception of the following new changes / additions:

  • Players are distributed a bit more randomly at the front when spawning in at a random spawn point
  • Enemy planes near allied spawn points are highlighted on the map (like in Ground Realistic Battles)
  • Afghanistan has been removed, and the following maps have been added: Sinai, Spain, Rocky Canyon, and Southeastern City
  • There are now 12 players on the defending team instead of 16 (this was changed near the end of the first test, where the win percentage for the Attackers then raised to a far more reasonable level)
  • The reward in Silver Lions and research points for destroying the SNR-75 tracking radar has been doubled
  • Mission score for destroying the SNR-75 tracking radar has been tripled to 270
  • Mission score for destroying launchers, Shilkas and detecting radars (P-12) has been unified for the Cobra and Phantom and increased to 135

Would be so cool if this was implemented into air simulator battles.

Anti-air bases are garbage when not completely useless…

Wish for more improvements in simulator modes also.

The accuracy on those Shilkas really needs to be turned down. No reason for them to be able to shoot pilots between the eyes from 3km away when they are going near mach. (This has been an issue with Sim for years now but still nothing was done for it, the AI in general really needs a rework.)

Also the S-75s need to be affected by chaff and notching instead of being manually guided. It’s hard enough for the attackers to defend against the MiG-21’s without needing to constantly try to dodge the SAMs and drain all of their speed doing so.

Whoop! Love this event, kinda wish it was around for longer to test it all out than a couple of days tester

Cant wait to shoot 10 Zunies and decimate all Vietnamese defenses in a 200 m radius.

Should add F105 instead of AH-1F.

Man i want to play Migs and it’s impossible . People die before you get there to fight them.
Not only this , but are so fixated in ground striking that they essentially go suicide to kill the SAMs and we just fly around trying to find them.

I can’t see any reasonable reason for the ZSU’s not getting changed, the only reason I can see is that changing them could affect the spaa logic in sim and they want to keep the spaa overpowered there

they can’t get it right

Still a shame it has such limited choice of aircraft

yeah this mode honestly is bad. team sizes are still scuffed. a Mig21 still only has to deal with 1 threat (F4E) while F4Es are still dealing with multiple. My issue with this entire setup is even with inferior ARMs, you simply have zero standoff capability without being forced into a 1v1+ situation.

team sizes need reducing by half if this has any chance of being balanced for both teams

Nope you have to deal with your own BS Shilka crap , that runs you around for nothing and stealing your kills anyway. The greatest crap is the diversion they create for the opposing team , you see enemies there you go there and as soon as you engage the Shilka does its miracle and you are there for nothing. Meanwhile the other Phantoms kill SAM sites.

Meanwhile most people suicide bomb SAM sites and win games , they get RP etc. and then you have MiGs running around for nothing…twice.

If half Phantoms actually CAP, you instantly win the game. The problem is EVERYONE suicide bombs because that’s how you win faster. And in this game OF COURSE fun is forbidden , they have to pull the BS instead of just play…

Not half but 10vs8 would be interesting.

once again, a mode is ruined/severely harmed by Gaijin wanting to shove as many players as possible onto a single map.

This could be balanced out by the F-4Es being much better planes overall than the Mig-21bis in their current configs (which is true), but the exact execution combined with the magic shilkas is too much for the phantoms.

This.
The Shilkas ruin the games for both sides.
It’s not a matter of win/loss. You get in to play . Instead you have fun dogfighting , Shilka remembers there is an opponent and snipes him.

However, the F-4E is far, far better than the MiG-21, with the availability of AIM-7E-2s. When the American team doesn’t leave after one death they sweep, even before the reduced Soviet team size. However, the majority of American players instead rush in a straight line at full bomb load, not maneuvering to avoid the shilkas (which only lead based on velocity and not acceleration), for, then leave like 4 left to try to win against the entire Soviet team

No jammers, no F-105s, no F-100s, no F-4Gs. no ARMs like AGM-45/122. Wheres the suppression? This is DEAD while the enemy AA is at full capability.

Someday, F-4G my love…

It seems pretty obvious the choice of vehicles was intended to allow the AGM-45 Shrike and AGM-122 sidearm, then these weapons were cut. The AH-1 is pretty useless

Not changing shilkas… huh do we have any statistics on shilka kills?
