Tornado GR.4: Tenacious Tonka

what’s highlighted in yellow is completely valid

what’s highlighted in green, either isn’t a valid reason because gaijin has gone out of their way to tweak it on other weapons while retaining their identity, or has already been broken multiple times by several weapons

Blatent as well.

Biggest issue is the top tier compression. You have 2.3 BRs worth of aircraft all sat at the exact same BR, all fighting each other. GR4 with SAL only Brimstones would be fine if the worst thing it would face is single role aircraft. Even if those were still fairly strong ones like the F-4, or even F-16s. Because if they wanted to spawn in CAS, then they would instead be in things like the F-111, Su24, Su-39 or a harrier

The problem is that the GR4 will be facing not only Fox-3s, but Fox-3 multiroles like the F-15E, F-16C and Su-34 pretty much every match, aircraft that can take out half your team on the ground with FnFs and then hunt for the free kill that is a Tornado at that BR.

No it isn’t.

That’s the point. Yak-141 and Ho-229 are both real aircraft.

SAL-only is a historical firing mode idk what to tell you

The issue, is that I doubt mode 1 would be used for the context of anti-tank work in contested airspace. It was intended when you had air superiority and providing CAS for troops on the ground or during a counter insurgency strikes like in operations like Op Shader.

Mode 2 and 3 is what would have likely been used to deal with tanks within the vague context of GRB, or even ASB

Only 6 months? You’re quite generous.

oh no thats until they acknowledge it

isn’t a decent amount of high tier CAS intended to be used with air superiority though? Standoff munitions, as far as I’m aware, are more to improve the chance of surviving against SAM sites/MANPADS. the AJ.168 is meant to be an AShM as well I think, not used against tanks in contested airspace?

Only having one mode out of three makes the missile ahistorical. The mode is historical, the missile is ahistorical.

Also the reason we keep bringing it up is because otherwise there is zero chance of something being done. If it gets added as it currently is then it will never get fixed, because Gaijin does everything it possibly can to avoid fixing anything British. The Challenger 2 threads and bug reports make this very obvious.

To a degree, yes, but I suspect they would be far more likely to use TV or IR Guided AGM-65s than the laser guided variant though I reckon.

AJ-168s were originally intended as an AShM but the actual guidance mode would make them pretty effective as a long range stand off weapon to stay out of the way as much as possible.

The preffered anti-tank weapon though of at least the Tornado Gr1 is BL-755s

Spoiler

Tornado Gr1 prefered weapons

for the GR4, its probably mode 3 Brimstones

Comparing WT or IRL is never going to work perfectly, of course. But that is ultimately the issue with the mode 1 Brimstones. They really arent designed for the use case in war thunder.

There is also the lack of dedicated CAP and SEAD that would be accompanying the Tornados

my understanding is that even if the other modes come they’ll be added as separate missiles due to limitations with the game, guaranteeing that every Brimstone implementation will be ahistorical by that standard

edit:

Also the reason we keep bringing it up is because otherwise there is zero chance of something being done. If it gets added as it currently is then it will never get fixed

but every time it’s mentioned you get the same answer, it’s already confirmed several times that we won’t get mmW for the time being. The mass has been corrected and three other reports have been passed (though we’ll have to wait and see if those are corrected)

To be frank, the best solution is to have the Brimstone removed with this logic.

while that would be sad at the very least might mean it will gown down in BR by a lot, I still think if they want to keep it SAL that they should remove the TV/IR guided AGMs of the F15E and Su34 because clearly having FnF weapons is far to op for the UK

When the F-16C was added with Aim-9Ls and not Aim-9Ms. The Americans kicked up a storm and it got Aim-9Ms

When the F-4F ICE was added with Aim-9L and not Aim-9Li. The Germans kicked up a storm and got Aim-9Li.

Not perfect examples though, and history has told us that they dont care about Britain at all (look at the Challenger 2) but maybe if we kick up enouggh stick, maybe they’ll buff the GR4 a bit instead of sweeping it under the rug like they did with the FA2 and F3.

  • BOL
  • IR PGMs
  • Litening III
  • Consider Storm Shadow/ALARM (ASAP)
  • Finish the radar on the Tornado IDSs
  • (Even just dropping it down to 12.0 in air modes)

Small things that could be done instead to make the GR4 a more worthwhile addition that basically a Torando Gr1 with Aim-9Ms, HMS and MAWS at the moment

the GR.4 is still getting HMS, AIM-9M, and GNSS+SAL bombs (up to 6), so idk if the BR would actually change if they got rid of Brimstone

I personally see this issue less that the Brimstone is SAL only, but that during the Dev Stream and Devblog they state there is a severe lack of counters such as ECM or long-range AA systems. Basically, they are adding advanced weaponry that’s barely able to fit into the game without bringing in important counterplay mechanics.

I’d like to see all of these (maybe bar ALARM, depending on other nations getting ARMs) but people telling Smin that the Kh-38MT is op over and over won’t really help with these imo

True, though they state about Brimstones being too OP as they can outrange any SPAA at top tier. Well… So can AGM-65 and especially KH-38. So that reasoning should be removed from the reasoning because it just sounds a bit… Hypocritical.
