That makes everything clear. I did not know that China is so strict about such data, I was honestly expecting a more relaxed approach on old equipment, maybe not like western nations, but more similar to Russia. Thank you for clearing this out, to be clear, I do not want to encourage anyone to do anything illegal.
This is where things get tricky:
You can use this data because:
These outdated equipment have long been retired or repurposed only for militia training
2.Having been referenced in years of military reports or public publications
3.For military equipment export purposes, offered manual to foreigner buyers.
So, in reality, no one will hold you accountable for using the specifications of old equipment that has been sitting in tank graveyards or parks for half a centuries.
However, the authorities have never officially announced that this data is no longer classified, nor have they proactively released the technical manuals.
So it is like Russia in the end - the overall approach towards outdated equipment is very relaxed, despite never be officially publicly released / declassified. I suppose in China it may be monitored for outside use, hence so little data technical data is available.
I will look for the “The Complete Book of Chinese Aircraft”, maybe it is available somehere in pdf format. So far best I found was “Chinese Aircraft: History of China’s Aviation Industry 1951-2007: China’s Aviation Industry Since 1951”. I might get either of these books anyway, just hope that Chinese one has english version (so far found only in Chinese).
In china,most of the service aircraft imitation, license-built or self-design start form 5(H-5, J-5, Q-5,Z-5), because Homophones of Five(五)and nothing(無),it’s base of 從無開始(start form nothing/start form Five),so there’s no J2, J4, only J5. Same to the H(Hong轟=轟炸=bombing)series.
I think it will be better to use Simplified Chinese as contrast
the name of early chinese plane is a littlebit complex, plaaf use letter code like H,J,Q,Y,Z, but they also use serial number like Type 56(license-built mig17f, the J-5) in early days, and a factory name(maybe?) called DongFeng 101(东风 101),like the J-5A(DongFeng 106), J-6(Type 59, DongFeng 102, hybird of imitaion of mig-19s and mig-19p), J-6A(DongFeng 103, hybird of mig-19p)
PLAAF deside to use letter code to name plane in service later
The first letter of chinese plane means:
H=轰Hong=轰炸=bombing,轰炸机=bomber
J=歼Jian=歼击=destory,歼击机=fighter
Q=强Qiang=强击=strike,强击机≈attacker(a little different but basically is attacker)
Y=运Yun=运输=Transport,运输机=cargo aircraft
Z=直Zhi=直升机=helicopter,
so, JH-7 means 歼+轰 number 7, Fighter Bomber 7(I don’t know why using 7)
Unfortunately it’s only via Issues section. I did 3 reports which may affect H-5 so far (as an update to original post), all of you were very helpful with getting those reports done! :) I suppose best we can do is click “you have the same issue” and wait for them to be noticed…
I belive WP-5A not just a chinese name of VK-1, it’s a downgrade version of the WP-5 by remove it’s afterburner and some other change, and the WP-5 is a copy of VK-1F
VK-1 → VK-1F → WP-5 → WP-5A
there’s also wp-5b use on keep chinese’s mig-15bis in service, wp-5c use on mig-17(not J-5, those non-afterburner mig-17 get form ussr) and wp-5d use on JJ-5(歼教-5JianJIao-5, Jiao教=教练=trainer, a fighter-trainer aircraft base on J-5)
That would mean slight downgrade towards what we have in game currently. I suppose such change would require some sources anyway for the dev team to change the engine properties.
VK-1F had lower kgf of dry thrust due to the afterburner installation, so if WP-5A was a copy of VK-1F, could, but did not have to, have that lower thrust.
I could try to get some source from google, but I am not live in mainland china so maynot have much help
I get a pdf call 世界航空发动机手册 1996 version publish by 航空工业出版社, maybe useful
If that does not get you into any trouble, you could attach these to the bug report I made and in the comment quote (if possible, also translate to english) part that states WP-5A thrust. Unfortunately for me, I have to use Chat-GPT to translate chinese. Maybe one day I will learn this beautiful language.
