Well if they properly modeled the VT-4 we won’t be complaining so much as well in here.
Well t80 models is mostly there. T84 has duplet era(double layer of nozh) which should be comparable to relikt im KE and much better in CE, should have good thermals And then it has a reverse gear.
That is mostly what matters in war thunder. 3bm42 is the best shell it carries as far as i know. If i remember right the ukranians have a modified version of it which performs better but i dont remember right
COrrect me if I am wrong, T84 is a traditional engine right?
Diesel engine with corrected transmission.
Cool, thx.
Yes — I do know we shouldn’t discuss politics in the forums, so I will state things cautiously and only introduce objective phenomena: why the future implied by this rumor offends and unsettles Chinese players (in fact many people are very angry about this now) and why, when implemented, War Thunder would lose a large number of Chinese players.
Quick reminders:
-
Who am I? I’m one of the mods of the War Thunder Tieba (Chinese forum). What I want to present objectively is the response and opinions from the Chinese player community and the Chinese market.

Please keep replies in this thread restrained and calm — don’t slip into geopolitics, complaints, or accusations.
Mods: when you remove extreme posts, please be merciful to not lock this thread — it is also useful feedback for the developers.
(Below is supplementary information for devs and for players unfamiliar with the East Asian situation; I will use as objective language as possible to describe observable facts.)
1.The rumor suggests giving the VT-4 to the Japanese tech tree. Whether or Not at the time of the next Majour Update, would be a terrible decision.
Every year War Thunder runs a Victory Day sale in May, and in September distributes V-J Day victory decals.
Many people unfamiliar with the regional sensitivities may think the past is the past and that the VT-4 is a modern vehicle so it doesn’t matter, but unlike Western Europe (which after WWII pursued reconciliation and formed organizations like the EU), relations in East Asia have not been smoothed over.
The timing of the next patch coincides with China’s once-in-a-decade large V-J Day military parade; this is an extremely sensitive time, and introducing such a vehicle at this moment would be very inappropriate. But even after clarification of introducing them another day would be inappropriate also.
In fact, I believe some devs are aware of this sensitivity — there was a dev blog comment assuring that China-produced vehicles would not be placed in the Japanese tech tree.
Promice of No Chinese Vehicle in Japan TT
Also, the fact that the Japanese tech tree’s flag differs in the Korean and Chinese clients supports my conclusion. And of the acknowledge of sensitivity by the devs.

2.Chinese players are actually very satisfied with many marketing activities in China: recently we received the cute loong-girl body pillow, and on Chinese video sites like Bilibili there are many War Thunder recommendations from influencers with multi-millions of followers — it’s clear Gaijin has invested a lot in marketing in China.

But Chinese players feel great unease and distrust about the future suggested by this rumor; many people feel offended, whether or not it is released in a sensitive timing.
Many players are not proficient in English, so although the international forums might seem calm, the Chinese forums are full of complaints and dissatisfaction about this.
On Tieba and on Hey Box (Gaijin’s Chinese sales partner):
They’re way too offensive and angry so I’m not going to translate them…
but u guys know this meme right?
There’re endless pages and pages of these threads with more posts inside it bursted just in 1 hour and given the fact that we’ve deleted some that went way to far…
Even if players love this game, As a currently a very popular and high-profile military game in China, War Thunder’s introducing something like this at such a sensitive point would cause many potential Chinese players to develop strong resentment and rejection. And many influencers will criticize it.
I’m not trying to be alarmist, but just consult any Chinese employee or volunteer or moderator, you will get the same answer:
This would greatly damage Gaijin’s and War Thunder’s reputation in China, and would cause trouble to the influencers who promote War Thunder, War Thunder streamers (video or live), partner platforms like Hey Box and UU Gaming VPN (yes, the “UU girl” is UU ’s mascot), and even other games Gaijin has cooperated Chinese servers such as Enlisted and Crossout.
I agree. We do not wish to see Chinese vehicles appear in the Japanese tech tree under any circumstances. If the official forum merely controls discussions without addressing players’ genuine concerns, it will only cause public dissatisfaction to erupt elsewhere. We hope Gaijin will truly consider this carefully.
Is it really that bad even though the vehicle is from Thailand and not japan?
It is very incorrect to issue VT4 tanks to Japan. There is a deep gap between the Chinese and Japanese series, which undoubtedly involves political issues. We hope that the authorities will take this matter seriously
This should be fixed internationally. The rising sun flag was never the national flag and should not represent the techtree.
This situation is very bad, you can understand it as two people with deep hatred cannot be together
Well, to be honest, maybe japanese can get T-84 or VT-4, as long as Thailand is a Subtree of Japan, and Thailand bought these.
(I understand Chinese players disliking that decision if it happens at the same level as SK players, who complained about the ‘possibility’ of being added to Japan as a sub tree in the forum before.)
But they shouldn’t get it close to addition in the original nation.
To me, I think this problem feels similar to the [Indian Rafale to Britain] case.
In the distant future, maybe it could be fine to add in-game, but not just too soon.
If VT-4 needs to be added to the game, of course Chinese version needs to get first, and the Thai version should follow with some gap between them.
Maybe a bigger gap will be better?
Personally I was expecting to see Indonesia and maybe the Philippines introduced alongside Thailand for the ground line, so that the Chinese vehicles operated by Thailand (Type 69, VT-4, VN-1, VN-16) could be silently held back in favor of less controversial options like the Indonesian Harimau and Leopard 2RI, and the Philippines Sabrah light tank and M113 FSV.
Thailand alone needs these vehicles to fill the subtree, but with support they could’ve never been added without anyone even noticing. Seems like a weird choice to me…
I think it is very problematic to deliberately hold back a nation, like adding Thailand and saying there can never be VT-4. But if they add other vehicles that fill the role, then it’s not held back, just not added for not being needed, which is nothing unusual for the game.
You need to use english in outside of your domestic section in forum…
I‘m afraid so, cuz as I said before, things a bit awkward and not like EU…
Seriously, based on how the VT4 currently performs on the Chinese tech tree in-game, I don’t support it being added as a premium vehicle to any nation… any nation at all… And with the Type 90B (that 4s reload is just SO satisfying!) already on the Japanese tech tree, adding another premium MBT seems to make little sense
Well, I have to admit, it’s even worse than that…
For gameplay, distributing vehicles is not a problem. The problem is that the official wants to bring two deeply conflicted ethnic groups together around special days like September 3rd. In terms of gameplay, the official’s approach is not a problem, but they underestimated the depth of the conflict between these two ethnic groups
