Top tier bluewater line-ups

Now that the end of the line battleships are being added, there is one more factor that impacts your average naval match. And that is line-ups.

Unless you want to fork over golden eagles for back-ups, your gonna need another battleship in your line-up to stay in the fight. So im making this thread to highlights a nations strengths or weaknesses when it comes to line-ups, the minimum criteria is at least two other BBs that are competetive.

First, Japan has undoubtedly the best line-up in the upcoming update. Yamato, Mutsu and Amagi are all very competetive giving your average Japanese naval player the best staying power in naval RB matches.

Next is the USSR, but with the cavaet that a Russian player would need to pay $80 for a competetive 3 ship line-up. Soyuz, Kronshtat and Sevastapool are powerful but definitely not to the level of Japan. Anything not a Soyuz might fond their guns anemic for the fight ahead so the average USSR top tier experience is determined exactly how dominant Soyuz will be.

The US player will have a cold water moment when trying to decide what else to bring if their Iowa went down. The best picks in my opinion are Iowa, Colorado and Tennessee, leaving out Alaska as she is too thin skinned, with lacking firepower to fight reliably in top tier super guns. The Standards slow speed, reload and unrealistic barbette weakness makes them suffer the most when trying to back up Iowa. Only the pure stats of their guns gives them a chance to lay down some hurt before dying.

The UK walks a thin line when it comes to line-ups. Vanguard, Nelson and Hood are well rounded but with the cavaet that none of them have exceptional firepower. Still, great module placement prevents them from being easily ammo racked and Nelson is still a threat in any match in the 10km range.

Germany might find itself slacking a bit, entirely dependent how Gaijin models Bismarks turtleback. Unlike Scharnhorst, it isnt curved so the game wont calculate insane angles to cause an auto ricochet. Her guns are also lack luster, with only her rate of fire making her stand out amongst her peers. Like Russia, they’ll need to lay $80 for a line up, making it Bismark, Gneisenau and Erzats York. Scharnhorst guns are unacceple in these tiers with her only being an option if you want a turtle that cant hit back.

The Fench have the glorious Richelieu, but needs an event ship for a line-up. Richelieu, Strasbourg and Dunkerque will have the latest French BB doing most of the heavy lifting. I do not see much staying potential in these ships with 800mm pen shells flying around, but Richies armor seems quite the troll possibly making her the new Scharnhorst.

Italy has Roma, then Conte and Duilio. Yeah, none of these ships are strong and Roma pays for her good guns with an unacceptable reload for Naval. Her going down will leave the Italian players with almost nothing to compete, unless they go after other players who also lost their top tiers and are using other ships in their line-up.

Anyway, these are my opinions and would be glad for any discussion.

From a Brit perspective it is gunna be interesting how I form my 8.0 line-up.

Vanguard hopefully will have the survivability to last a good chunk of a match, meaning backups wont be needed constantly, but Rodney does pack a punch, enough that she should be fine if used in a smart way, even in a full uptier against 8.7s.

What ship Id use as my third. Im not sure. Hood would make sense, but im also a little bored of Hood by now, so im thinking it might actually be Warspite. (though if CAS does become a lot more common, then maybe a Anti-CAS ship like HMS Tiger or if they get added something like a Type 21/22 or County Class destroyer would be worthwhile)

But there is a further part to this that needs to be considered. CAS. To date, CAS has been basically worthless for fighting ships, but this update brings 2 major changes. The first is that SPAA isn’t quite as effective as before and secondly, that we can now bring 8.3 CAS (could have sworn they said 8.7 was planned on the dev stream, but on the server I could only bring 8,3)

Which then does present an entirely different question. Do I bring 8.3 CAS like the Canberra or even 8.7 CAS like the Buc S1 and just uptier my entire line-up? Would that be more valuable than just keeping my lineup 8.0 and below?

Its something im gunna be asking myself whislt spading the Vanguard

CAS is an interesting question, while the changes were made to make planes more valuable, most of the battleships have 6" decks (150mm) or thicker. Making them seriously resistant to a large amount of ordinance.

This is definitely a ‘wait and see’ type of situation, but if your ship has competent AA is now a much more serious question.

Yeah. Its something Id have to try out, but I do wonder how even the chonkiest of these new battleships would fair from a Canberra dropping 2x 4K Cookies onto them or 8x 1000lb bombs from a Buc S1.

Vanguard at least should be fairly good at dealing with Air threats and that will probably be largely her job.

Me sitting on 1970 universal backups…
I’m almost to the current year.

Time will come in future updates where more are added.

Compared to all the other top additions, Bismarck is just third rate. Iowa, Soyuz, Yamato. The appropriate German addition would have been a H-class BB with 406mm guns.

Bismarck is too late, should have been introduced long ago. Dunno, so many were waiting for this legend. Now, as its finally introduced, its just not in the same league as all others. Its two generations behind (considering Vanguard). Hard enyoy this addition, there should have been an update months ago featuring the Bismark. Simiar as it was done with mighty Hood or Nelson.

Well, I tried to create a user mission to test how something like a Yamato would fair against a Canberra and I couldnt figure out what I was meant to do. I followed the instructions but the usermission never appeared. So never mind on that idea

First, don’t fly focus on large ships, u still have boats, American and Italy have missile boats to cap or AA, Russian have wheelchair 206. Second, in air, now BR8.7 can using guided bomb and jet bomber, that the real threaten for 8.7’s dumb BB. The last thing, u still have backup vehicle, why not use them to give u second chance on it?

I wonder if Fuso, Ise, Kongo would be a better lineup, since they don’t face top tier ships

Maybe Japan BR6.7 is another sweet point too I remember Gaijin decrease Ise’s BR to 6.7, and still have Yamashiro premium ship.

But in the current test server, the Sovetsky Soyuz can almost fight against Yamato, Mutsu, and Amagi at the same time and destory them all.Yamato could easily been destoryed in two or three shoots from the Sovetsky Soyuz. Seems russian player can defeat every other player without 3 ships.

Thats unfortnately true. But I guess Gajin might correct that, its too silly atm. Especially for the new BB one or two generations below these super battleships. Roma, Vang, Bismarck etc. seem to be totally useless. Also the 80 Euro premiums, they advertise, all doa.

But the truth is, Gaijin’s two premium ships are also easy to kill, schran due to its mag on the shell room, and Korn only have 200-250mm waterline armor.

Right, but people in here they only focus on realistic ships, not focus on the project ships, PR.23 is the real black horse in next update. Anyway, its a Russian game, soviet have powerful plan ship is not a problem.

France and Italy would most likely benefit the most of more ‘copies’ of tech tree ships. Another Littorio or Jean Bart would go long and far making them competetive, especially since they lack any other ship types to add to the game. Same goes for thr Germans with Tirpitz.

The US will have the South Dakota, which is just a shorter Iowa and Japans line up is already good enough that any more additions arent necessary.

The USSR has the Soyuz which hilariously seems like it was built for Warthunder Naval, so they absolutely do not deserve another copy.

Germany could get H-39 as well. At least one was laid down, and other parts were built for it before she was cancelled

Battleship H39 and J39 were laid down.

Yeah soyuz is just dumb right now which i hope will be adjusted. Yamato has issues with some areas in armor but more specifically magazine and shell room size and location which hopefully will be adjusted as well and increase its survivability tho it will still have weak spots but at least not a floating time bomb that it is now.

It would be good for them to do for the nations with a limited pool of different classes, but it currently goes against their “rules”
