Toggle for legacy afterburners

This Suggestion is about a feature to switch between which afterburner visuals you wish to see in game.

Why:

Some players, myself included, much prefer the older afterburner textures. Whilst the new ones are more realistic, I personally believe the older ones suited the games more arcady style. They are far more simplistic than the “improved” ones, as well as being less taxing on some lower end PCs. As well as this, some players also miss the “legacy afterburners” originally present on early jets. These added to the arcady feel of the game at the time, and would be a prefered graphcial feature for many players today. This may also go a long way towards bringing some older players back to the game.

How:

This would function as two modes:

Realistic
Fictional

Realistic would be all of the current afterburner graphics, with none present on legacy jets. This would be the one set by default.

Fictional would be the legacy options, including afterburners on the legacy jets such as me262, sabers and mig 15s, as well as the original top tier afterburners from 2023/4

These options would be found on the Customisation of Vehicles page, as the last option. It would not depend upon any of the other options here, however it might require a seperate download on the launcher or “DLC” on steam.

This would be entirely client side. Having one selected does not change what other people see, only what you see, further reinforcing that those who do not like this can simply ignore its existance.

It goes without saying that the legacy jet afterburners would be 100% visual only, just like they were back in the day. They do not increase thrust, or increase how hot your engine is. You gain no advantage or disadvantage from having them enabled.

If gaijin felt the need to monestise it, it could be locked behind premium account, however I would hope this isnt needed.
Here are some side by side comparisons of what the two modes might look like.

This would be a much apreciated change by a big part of the community, whilst taking away nothing from those who do not care about it.
Feel free to leave your thoughts.

Although I don’t think the majority of people would want it, it also would not take any effort on gaijin’s part (at least with a functioning game). There is never a downside to giving more options and settings to players.

Except the fact that they will have to mainain two separate afterburner styles/models/effects/etc

I mean if the server hamster can handle it why not. I personally would probably not use it, but for those who would, you do you. +1

If the server can make it purely cosmetic, and others can see it in custom battles. +1.
In normal matches, of course, only client-side.

all the old afterburner models already exist, there is nothing to maintain.

Afterburner effect is not just a model, there should be a code behind it, some effects strapped on top, etc, so you will have to make a system that will turn that all on/off or something or update old models to be used with modern code/effects/etc?

all the old afterburners still work as user skins with every plane, although at 50% opacity. These burners still have animations and work properly.

I think having more options is never really a bad thing.
