Hello forums! So, the Tank Museum in Bovington recently released a video on the Tog 2*, detailing some of the mistakes they made in their original video. What caught my attention is that state that the top speed of the tog Tog 2* was 12 mph which works out to just above 19 km/h, not the 14 km/h we have in game. Now the video has sources, but they don’t specify which source is the origin of this number. I can’t find all of the documents online, which has hampered my research a bit.
What also is obvious from the original footage of the Tog 2* being tested is that it’s also a much better turner and uphill climber than the game makes it out to be.
So, my ask of you guys is if we can find the sources that claim this new number, so we can hopefully get it changed?
They’re listed in the description of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfhzhPJAw6g&t
The speed claim is done at around 8:05.
Thanks!

They where using the Bovingtons Tog which trans was broken so it was limited in movement.
That can’t be true, because the Tog 2* doesn’t have a transmission. It’s using it’s 600hp diesel engine to run two generators, which run two electric motors. There is no trans. Besides, the Tog 2* at Bovington, aka the only one in existance, isn’t running.
If this is true, then it’s best to do a bug report about it, or else it won’t be accepted.
Unless there already is a bug report about it’s speed.

That’s called an electric motor driven transmission and yes those can be damaged to where they don’t generate the energy needed or something else the tog does have a very old and complicated E-tran.

It possible could be due to teeth on the gears missing lose belts or any other manner of issues that come with E-trans that old.
Also the togs estimated top speed was 25km/h or 15.53mp/h but it only achieved 13.7km/h or 8.5mp/h. There are a lot of factors that played into this mainly the biggest it’s weight the E-tran could not deliver sufficient power to move the 80+ton tank.
The got a few things wrong in that video as well as claiming it has thicker armour than previously stated.
Bovingdon isn’t exactly great at using their own archives, like at all.
I did a bug report on the non functional sponson machine guns and it was rejected don’t expect anything
I was hoping to gather some actual sources that they can read before I do that, hence this thread. I was mostly wondering if anyone had those sources listed available to them, because I can’t find them.
If anyone’s got the book “The Tanks of TOG: The work of the Special Vehicle Development Committee in World War II, (2017)” by Andrew Hills, I’d love if you could check out what it says about the speed in there.
I’m not sure where you’re getting this information. I can’t find anything on that the speed was theoretical, nor anything about the transmission. Like I said, the tank museum is saying it’s just direct drive. They say in the video “The system also eliminates the need for a traditional transmission and gear box, as the drive is supplied straight to the the tracks, via the sprocket wheel”. I don’t quite know what to believe, and there’s like no sources anywhere.
Everyone is confidently saying that the final speed was theoretical, but I can’t see anyone finding any proof that it was theoretical and not actual.
Andrew himself can be found in certain Discord servers related to war thunder tech trees, but its hard to contact him directly. Try asking there for anyone who may have good contact with him, or that book, they could give you the answer directly. At least that’s one way I could update one of wiki articles on TOG fairly better, lol
