Hello everyone :), what I would like to introduce today is Tirailleur (PC-542)
The Tirailleur submarine, formerly known as the USS PC-542 of the United States Navy, began construction on February 26, 1942 at the Defoe Shipbuilding Company in Bay, Michigan; Launched on April 4th, 1942; And served on May 25, 1942. Belonging to the PC-461 class, he participated in multiple battles after service and escorted escort fleets to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, before sailing to the Mediterranean and arriving in Alze, Algeria. It participated in the battles of Scogliotti, Brollo, Salerno, and Anzio in Italy; And the ‘Dragon Cavalry Operation’. On September 30, 1944, PC-542 was transferred to France under the Lend Lease Act, renamed Tirailleur(W 102), and shot down two German planes in the Mediterranean Sea.
Its main attack method on submarines is to drop depth charges. There are two depth charge rails and four depth charge dispensers at the stern of the ship. In addition, there are two rocket launchers. For attacking surface targets, use a 3-inch/50 dual-purpose gun mount and a 40mm gun mount; Three 20mm guns It has a full load of 450 tons and a length of 173 feet 8 inches; Width 23 feet; Draft of 10 feet 10 inches; Maximum speed of 20.2 knots; Establishment of 65 personnel.
It served as a coastal escort ship in Toulon until 1957, and was eventually decommissioned and dismantled in the same year. There were no other achievements during the service period.
Tirailleur is a Submarine Chaser with strong firepower but poor maneuverability. The weapons it carries can easily sink small torpedo boats and cause significant damage by dropping depth charges when approaching enemies. However, due to its low speed, it is unable to quickly transfer when facing enemy attacks. Suggest BR to be 2.7.
