Use the hydro suspension to get the profile you need for the spots you are playing in so only the turret is exposed when you shoot, and to increase gun depression.

Otherwise ya its kinda a boat on wheels.

As @Sternlos suggested, use the hydropneumatic suspension. However try to enhance your depression values specially forward.

M1128 plays like a sniper in War Thunder, so as its stock, try to get the laser rangefinder fast as possible, if you have no issues with aiming and measuring distance by yourself then go to the APDS-FS ammunition.

Maneuverability is not the best but excels in long range maps if you change to play in one eventually, urban maps it’s very situational, there are barely few spots which you can use the lowered turret benefits.

Try not to treat it like a light tank, it plays more like a weird tank destroyer. like others said your best bet is to try to use range to your advantage and while you have only heat you’ll have to play patiently and pick off other lights. it has one of the best APFSDS for it’s tier once you grind for it

+1 to everything everyone else said already ☝️

I will add that you should try using the Commander view WITH commander fire. The commander sight is VERY high up on the turret, and helps peak over hills without exposing yourself. Also, works GREAT for scouting, especially in GRB once you get the thermal sights. And not only is the commander sight up very high, you have a crew-less turret, so the benefits of using the commander sights are two fold.

(Just in case you have not used the commander fire control before, it needs to be keybound to turn on. You go into commander sight THEN hit the commander fire button. Lmk if you need help finding that keybind.)

Happy hunting bro.

EDIT: Side note, again just in case you did not know, you can use your rangefinder AND scout while using Commander view. Again, very useful for GRB. I LOVE scouting with thermals when the commander optics are placed up so high on a light tank.

EDIT EDIT: For giggles, here is a website that shows the Generation version for NVD/TVD on vehicles (has an air section too, and SAM radar/range section): Ground Thermals – Thunder View

M1128’s have Gen 3/3 TVD’s, silly good:
