The VT-5's frontal armor values are grossly inaccurate

As noted in Modern Ships (Issue 8, 2018), the VT-5 light tank is designed for diverse combat environments, including plains, hills, rice fields, and urban warfare. The article specifies that the baseline variant of the VT-5 (the model procured by Bangladesh) features frontal armor capable of resisting older 100mm full-caliber armor-piercing shells (e.g., BR-412D from the T-54A) and Russian 30mm APDS rounds. However, current in-game testing reveals discrepancies: when struck by BR-412D at 2000 meters, the VT-5’s frontal armor is modeled at only 102mm for the turret, 70mm for the upper glacis, and 30mm for the lower glacis. Furthermore, the tank’s frontal armor fails entirely to stop 30mm APDS rounds within 1800 meters — a contradiction of its design intent and weight-based protective potential.
For example, the ZTZ96 weighs 41 tons while the VT-5 baseline variant is 33 tons. Despite sharing comparable engine power, the VT-5’s baseline variant has a shorter hull, lighter gun barrel, simplified autoloader, and reduced suspension weight compared to the ZTZ96. This weight-saving design implies that the residual mass allocated to armor should logically correspond to frontal hull protection similar to — or slightly inferior to — that of the ZTZ96.

Given the VT-5’s compact design and weight prioritization toward armor, its frontal protection should not fall significantly below that of a heavier platform like the ZTZ96, especially when factoring in modern material advancements.

Additionally, the in-game model currently lacks visual representation of composite armor layers. As highlighted in an article on Zhihu, the VT-5’s protection primarily relies on its base armor (with the hull and turret constructed from fully welded steel armor) combined with internal composite armor layers containing ceramic materials.
