The Type 98 Ke-Ni Production: Incremental Success

+1. I already like the prototype Ke-Ni. This one looks better, is somewhat better armoured, and was produced in numbers.

+1 This is pretty cool, the turret looks very similar to the turret of the Ka-Mi, lets hope it can’t be frontaly killed by 7.62…

+1 would be cool

Should be the reserve vehicle. Make the current Ke-Ni Proto foldered under it. The very similar Ke-To could probably be added in the same update, and could be foldered with the Ka-Mi as a more conventional alternative.

I think Ke-To would be a big upgrade over the Ka-Mi. Way better mobility, slightly thicker & angled frontal armour, and it’s tiny in comparison. In my opinion, it could do well at 1.3.

Ka-Mi is missing the pontoons and 2 crewmen still. Both the Ke-To and Ka-Mi could be 1.3 then, though I’d like them to slightly buff the reload up to 3.1 seconds.

The pontoons would be useless. They’d make it extremely slow, while not providing that much protection. Also, it can already float without them.

In my opinion, the line before the M24 could look like this:

  1. Ke-Ni production as reserve (Ke-Ni prototype & Ha-Go foldered)
  2. Ka-Mi at 1.0
  3. Ke-To at 1.3
  4. Ke-Ho at 2.0-2.3.

Ke-Ho should be 2.7 assuming its got the Type 1 47 mm instead of the experimental short 47 mm. It’s basically just a faster Chi-Ha Kai that isn’t that much less survivable.

The Ke-Nu could be 2.3 since that has an inferior chassis and mobility.

Yes, we need more japanese ground stuff +1

Considering this I think we could have:

(1.0): Ha-Go, Ke-Ni Model A, Ka-Mi
(1.3): Ke-Ni Production (with experimental APHEBC)
(1.7): Ke-To (experimental APHEBC as well?)
(2.0): ?
(2.3): Ke-Nu
(2.7): Ke-Ho

As for 2.0 I’m thinking about the possible Type 98 Ke-Ni 47mm modification hinted at by Japanese wiki. Maybe this is actually just the Ke-Nu, but if it really does have a smaller turret that ended up being an actual issue IRL, I would expect that to significantly impact the reload in-game.

I think they could upgrade the Ha-Go by switching its type 94 cannon to the type 98, and giving it better shells. It deserves to be competitive, as it’s one of their most iconic tanks.

No need to switch the gun, I think we could just add a separate (Late) version instead.

Ke-Ho would probably be higher just because of the 47 mm gun lol

If there is more to substantiate its existence as a distinct vehicle, then sure. I’d be quite open to its addition at that BR.

I’d also propose making the Ke-Ho Exp. 47 mm a non-TT vehicle at 2.3. This would let Gajin get their money’s worth out of the Ke-Ho 3D model while the Ke-Nu and Ke-Ho stay freely accessible.

I could be wrong, but I believe this “smaller turret” is just the conical turret featured originally on the Ke-Ni A. It just got mixed up, as by the time they tested this variant, the larger cylindrical turret was already undergoing production

Exp. 47 mm being the shorter tank gun?

But there is no evidence that the Ke-Ho tested both long and short barrel 47mms no?. I thought it was originally presumed to be the short 47mm and then later discovered to be the longer weapon.

The wiki claims that the modification was completed late 1940 to early 1941 which lines up with your theory since the production variant did not appear until 1942.

The wiki also mentions that the experimental 47mm was tested first, and then later the Type 1. If true I suppose this means we could get two different vehicles out of this rearmament project.
