Absolute gem
The game is for everyone. However, that doesn’t mean I can just mindlessly charge in, die a few times without accomplishing anything, and then quit the match. Just as I have the right to enjoy the game, so do my teammates. If a new player puts in the effort, they’ll gradually achieve good results; but if they start out with no interest in improving, they’ll ruin the game for others. Single-player games exist for those who have no respect for other people.
I think its too unrestricted. letting someone with zero time playing it buy a top tier premium just to get hammered every game is awful for player retention and means teams around those BRs arent just playing one man down, the enemy got some extra SP from your teams dead weight.
I do honestly think this is as big of or a bigger issue than new players not being good. not being good at a new game is understandable. Being in a squadron where you all play nothing but T58, TURM 3, XM800T, removed fake german tanks and the 35mm SPAAs because they are overpowered is throwing most of the game in the bin just to get the victory screen. Wins mean nothing at that point and you are destroying a casual game space.
Ive played other video games in actual tournaments and competitive spaces and all the fun gets sucked out of it. I do think being somewhat hostile to tryhard groups and a competitive scene is needed to stop the game devolving into another counter strike or LoL clone where people report you and you get temp bans or flags on your account for being a casual or even worse, end up like super smash bros Melee. Or at minimum add a ranked matchmaker so a lot of them may go there (i doubt they will, that kind of player is only intrested in sealclubbery)
Problem is that the average player for WT is far far worse than what would be expected for a shooter.
Average kill per spawn isnt around 1:1, its around 0.7 kills per life/spawn. theres a rather small amount of the playerbase that outperforms the majority. WT is one of the most unbalanced playerbases there is, top 3-4 players are almost always carrying the rest. 60% of the playerbase would need to be culled for everyone to be competent its really quite unusual (and entirely caused by gaijins game design)
put a noob into a SU30MKK and they are going to lose against people in sabres. the problem is that the SU30MKK premiums are a 13.7-14.0 capable aircraft which means the moment someone that is competent uses it they slaughter everything with ease.
Look back at the average kill per spawn for air realistic, now at what the average player does in a SU30MKK/AMV, they are doing 20-38% better than expected if the vehicle was balanced at an appropriate BR.

now look at recent sessions for the vehicle from a competent player (this isnt me, this is my friend @Beeschurger hes a competent player and has been doing unspeakable things to people in air realistic as of late) its night and day, everyone that has a decent understanding of the game blatantly sees how overpowered it is.
The day tryhard groups get their just desserts will be a day many of us celebrate.
bad players are punished enough by being bad. new players need restriction from making the mistake of buying top tier but other than that and some better tutorial systems theres nothing that can be done to force them to get better.
TLDR:
WT is very unbalanced, new players will always be bad (a lot of them need to look up some tutorials on YT, they genuinely help a lot)
Tryhards that are allergic to showers ought to be outright shunned from the general consensus.
Bad players need to think twice before whining on the forums, Tryhards need to learn that most of us are casual players.
Tryhards need a place to be uber sweaty competitive to reduce pressure on competent casual players carrying harder than they naturally do. (its either that or SBMM and SBMM punishes everyone, nobody in their right mind likes SBMM)
Im not saying noobs and sweaty no lifes shouldnt have a voice, but they should know where they actually are within the player pool. dont want to say “know your place” as it comes off as too mean but it is kinda needed to know where you actually stand
In all honesty i should probably be sitting higher.
if you forgot how to shower and talk to women (i assume you can do both) sure you could get a K/D of 6 easily. youre a good player but you dont tryhard, you actually play to have fun.
Depends, if only the skill floor rises then average KPS should go up while KPS for the top players goes down since youre essentially closing the gap and distributing kills more equally but you are correct that a KPS of 1 is the maximum achievable where everyone is completely equal since War thunder doesnt have mechanics like revive or shared kills like for example battlefield does. Also things like Jing out, crashing, teamkills etc would also negatively impact KPS while not adding kills to the other side.
So yeah purely using the current average KPS as proof that the average war thunder player doesnt know what theyre doing isnt really correct.
Having said that i absolutely do think that new players and especially the ones buying a high tier premium need more handholding from Gaijin in the beginning like more detailed, in depth guides, preferably specifically for the 70€ premium they just purchased and maybe even bot matches at the start with other new players just to get a hang of how the game works in general and what the maps look like.
I almost choked when I saw

We want the skill floor to be naturally higher and closer to the skill ceiling. (note that this doesnt mean give crap players special charity or handcuff competent players)
yeah bro Im not coming to do a job but to play the game.
All that can be certain is if everyone got better germany would still suck.
Another TIGER_TANK_1 banger
Only if the lowest low and highest high improved at the same rate.
if the lowest skill improved to be closer to the highest skilled then things would be much better and healthier for the game
Yh but they still have to use german vics while everyone else gets better too so status quo
Theres no saving the slow and heavy germans. Then they flip at 7.7 and become fast but then use tin for armour. Extremes with no middle ground
Dont get ne wrong early germans slap it just goes bad fast
If you only you knew how opposite things are. Maps are being made small with little to no options for flanking and force everyone into corridor staredown. Alternatively, maps are being made/remade with so much visual clutter not even expirienced player with “sharp” eye can possibly detect anything. Introduction of volumetric and detailed module system significantly increase number of “gaijined” moments. Addition of 3D spotting markers (it was long ago yet it happened) to the RB.
The game is made for the wider audience who largerly unskilled (simply because they are new/play not often) Gaijin primarily caters to that audience which is supported by what I wrote above. New Premium vehicles are added for those who are yet to join the grind, not those who already have everything they need (ofcourse there are rare exception of selling obviously overpowered vehicles like T58 on release).
Skilled players were never the target audience. (Thats why we get sloppy updates and constant release of new things to grind and yet to receive a single update that would be largerly focused on fixing exiting things.)
I’ve yet to see anybody who wants that, thats some imaginary person with unrealistic worldview. What people want is better instruments for team coordination, better maps, and less things that prevent skilled players to solo the game.
They barely know how to drive, yet to discover existance of sound and in concerningly large amount of cases yet to discover peripheral vision.
Answering to the general message of ypur post - people on forum don’t have issue with bad players simply existing, issue is when those bad players that lack understanding of the game flood formus with their wrong opinion. Abrams bad, Pantsir is weak, Russia suffering and many more other out of touch takes.
Ill agree the change from tiger 2 to leo 1 is stark. but that only goes so far for the tiger 2 being such a major skill filter in the game.
agreed. a majority of them should be 0.3 or 0.7 higher, but WT balances on player skill rather than vehicle potential so things wont ever be the smoothest
As someone who plays without Premium Account or Vehicles and loses matches often because I play Germany, I agree. The free rewards are a joke and I never focus on the grind. For actual progression, Premium Account and Vehicles are basically mandatory.
Luckily I have all the vehicles I like in one lineup and can just play for fun.
As for economic part - reward for time played makes up for AT LEAST half of your total reward if you are insanely skilled, for unskilled players that number skyrockets to ~70%. So the game is arguably made for unskilled players to not have that bad of a grind if you at least manage to stay alive, which is more than achievable. (unfortunately this along with shitty maps cultivates passive gameplay)
Game is balanced by silver earnt and stats that include AI kills
Dont even think Player skill comes into it at all. Kfir base bomber gets loads of silver but bad stats = never moved
Killing ground AI in air RB can get a purple rating even with a large negative KD. Maybe GJ have a way or sorting AI kills or not- but i doubt it
Why would a PVP game even add them to the count?
F-14A IRIAF was definitely the worst for me, just because I did all of it with Rank 2/3 Japan air as a newbie in arcade. Took a LOT of time.
You have something to back that up?
