the earlier tiger 2 model was perfectly fine! even after it is remodeled it kinda looks okay
but it just lost its veteran ww2 looking vibe and got some reworked museum type of thing!
devs please add some ww2 authenticity to it!!!
It was an old and outdated model, it looks way better now than before, with now its updated X-Ray also.

Honestly what are you even talking about?
What they mean by ww2 authenticity is the model doesn’t look like it was made in 2012.
Really with ww2 Germany’s state at the end of the war literally anything could go, ranging from a fully painted tiger 2 with Zimmerit plastered on the whole vehicle, to missing fenders and just had the base red oxide primer and throw to the front lines.
Unfortunately this is not the kind of game we’re playing,
The point of WT’s vehicle modelling is not to have historical war authenticity. It’s to show vehicles in their absolute best state possible.
It’s not like if the vehicles were physically like 3-9 months would be super rusty or whatever.
And why would we have 3-9 months old used vehicles in-game instead of vehicles straight up rolled out of the best possible factory in its best possible state? I don’t see a single reason why that would be a good idea.
It does detract from the gritty art style of the game, it is okay to have some creative liberties. Not everything has to be pristine and clean looking, which is boring.
I mean, there always exists the customization option to wear down your own vehicle’s look and make it look more battle-scarred. But honestly, can’t say much about wanting vehicle to not be “pristine and clean looking”, I just feel like War Thunder already strayed too far from the WW2 vibes for that.
It is okay to rework vehicles, specially the legacy ones that were introduced over 10 years ago, since the models and textures are not up to today’s standards, but I feel like they should still retain their original war-torn vibe. Not every tank that made it to the battlefield in WW2 was a museum and parade piece.
The new model looks like it came straight out of the factory.
The old model had bent fenders and probably other blemishes I can’t recall. Making it feel like it actually saw service.
I’d like it if they added the ability for things like fenders to be bent or dinged during the round. They’ve already done a good job allowing tanks to get dirty during combat. Maybe even an option to enable or disable Zimmerit, also.
The new model looks great, in terms of quality and granularity. The only critique I would have in “objective” terms is that the Zimmerit is way too simmetrical and neatly, it almost looks like tiny ERA blocks. A bit overdone.
The debate over “factory fresh” vs “lived in” is ultimately subjective, and we can customise it ourselves to a degree, so it’s fine. I will say however, I do think it’s true that the new model is a little too glossy. More than factory-fresh, it looks like it’s just been taken off a showroom floor, at least under some lighting conditions.
it does not for sure. It looks like a toy, some kinda WoT vibe. I hate seeing this game`s style fade away that much…
i mean. Look at the recently added Object 775. It`s also an HD model, but its not a toy. It looks like a tank, has some defects and details that make it look not only realistic, but authentic. And the tiger 2? Even the Bovington’s tiger 2 looks a way worse (but much more authentic) than this plastic toy of a tank. Even the Patriot Park’s Tiger 2 looks way more worn-out and authentic, being at the same time completely newly painted and clean.
Its not that the new tiger model looks bad. Its that it looks not authentic. Its plastic, it lacks defects, weld lines, look of metal and paint. it dissonanses with other machines. Even new shiny T-34-85s which also look strangely new dont dissonanse that much.
Old Tiger 2s were surely outdated, they has low resolution textures. But they did look authentic. You come home from a museum and see the same war machine. And now? A toy tank, same as other project`s toy tanks.
And the “worn out” setting does practically nothing for tiger 2 for sure, especially with market camouflages that started looking worse somehow.
They do look worse, the market camos I mean, but that’s to be expected when they end up on a model they were not made for, the base colour of my 1946 skin in that screenshot looks much worse than in the original skin.
Anyway, what you’re complaining about, the “plastic” feel, is what I was referring to when I said the new model is too glossy. That’s not a problem with the actual 3D shape and detail of the model, which is super good. It’s a problem of texture. It’s very shiny, very even, it reflects the light like it had just been polished to a high sheen. That’s not a problem with the model but with how it’s been textured.
tho it is in some way. It lacks the defects and metally effects to make it look authentic, which was not the case with older ones. Rugged sideskirts, spots and weld on metal, uneven zimmerite, ect ect ect.
In some way, those 3d models are worse as they arent as authentic.
Tho i strongly agree that different texturing can (and at least with 60% chanse will) save the day. Making it look less plastic, and adding some metally effect, not a fresh painted concrete wall effect, would certainly benefit the authenticicy of the model. And maybe even solve the problems it has with authenticicy.
yes, i noticed that too.
Isn’t basically all of this just textures?
well, im not sure if zimmerit is a texture or the 3d model. But if think a bit out of the box, all of that can be done with textures, yes. It would look worse at some angles than if it is made on a model, but will still work.
