Hello,
I can’t test the Skink UK SPAA at 5.0 because I need to grind the previous SPAA.
But it looks good on the paper. In reality is it that good? It has a lot of ammo and 20mm guns.
How good is it according to you?

It’s ok, its not great. The problem is, at its BR it faces jets and the guns and turret are both slow and the ammunition per barrel runs out rather quick. You then have to wait a considerable time to reload.
Ok. Got it. However I have to grind the Skink to reach the Falcon at 8.3? No other choice…
You basically trade firepower for protection as it is fully enclosed and cant be easily strafed.
Yes! I noticed. Protection from explosions and strafing is priceless…But not from bombing…
hah, if only!
still imo its viable alternative to other SPAAs. especially when theres multiple SPAAs, as you cant get easily strafed.
I would personally recommend the Bosvark at 5.3. Much better firepower and pretty easy to line up some shots. I’m not a great SPAA player but I manage to bag 4-5 planes with the Bosvark, assuming there’s enemy air presence and we don’t have a total ass map like Rhine
I found the Skink to be ok, at least over the Boszark, which I haven’t found to be usable(its negatives outweigh its only upside).
But it requires a different playstyle than most. You want to bait planes, and more often than not, they’ll strafe you, getting them close and easy to take out.
Pros:
+Armor
+Ammunition
+Burst mass
Cons:
-Low(ish) velocity/low range
-Low AP penetration
-A bit sluggish (for SPAA)
Ultimately the Skink is a very good SPAA to defend yourself (or teammates in the immediate area) against aircraft. If you shoot some tracers into the sky and maybe pretend to look elsewhere you can bait unsuspecting pilots. While in the attack run they fly straight at you, and the range decreases rapidly, which means there’s no need to lead the target. Your armor renders you immune to their strafing attack. An easy kill.
What if the enemy refuses to attack you, personally? Maybe they know you’re a Skink, or are just busy tearing into your teammates. Then the Skink becomes much less effective and IMO frustrating to play. They will come in at an angle, or worst case parallel to you. You will have to pull a lot of lead with the 20mm, this problem only gets worse as range increases (the small shells lose much of their speed). As much hate as low/mid tier 40mm SPAAs get, you just can’t reach out and touch something nearly as well as those 40mm can.
Even though it’s an SPAA we should also consider anti-tank capability. The Skink scores poorly in this category due to it’s mediocre mobility and low penetration. IMO this is a big disadvantage since oftentimes you may find yourself short of SP or have no other vehicles to spawn, forcing you into the SPAA. You can’t go on the offense with flanking maneuvers, and you can’t defend yourself against tanks pushing your spawn.
TLDR: The Skink is a SPAA for anti-air only, and only in very close range. For the Skink to work, not only does there have be enemy aircraft, but they also have to be within approx. 500 meters of you, or else you’re wasting your time. Sometimes this does happen and in that case the Skink is very good. I recommend you bring the Skink, but ideally not as the only SPAA in the lineup.
Its fine for 5.3. Probably should be 4.7/5.0. But sucks when you are forced to use it up to 7.x
If your enemy has more than 2 IQ they will know not to MG strafe you but simply drop bombs, making your enclosed shell useless. The Bosvark is a bad platform but it has much better cannons.
I think it’s worth shooting at tanks (controversial opinion I know) because this allows you to level it up. If the planes go away or get shot down, just shoot tank tracks for ez points. I levelled up my Bosvark a couple of years ago, just by shooting tracks and slowly driving away. Skink is pretty good, but like any spaa you’ll find moments where there are no enemy planes in the sky.
This, bigger learning curve but far better against planes.
Gaijin just love uptiering enclosed SPAA’s above their firepower’s usefulness. It was fine at 4.7.
