9M317MA reaches Mach 4.95 and blows up at Mach 2.7 at 75km this takes 75 seconds
ASTER 30 reaches Mach 4.35 and blows up at Mach 0.95 at 90km this takes 210 seconds
If you watch the video with the ASTER 30 it mysteriously stops accelerating past mach 4.35 and proceeds to bleed its speed twice as fast as the 9M317MA
a Cx of 1.75 will do that
And yes i know it’s not the only thing taken into account for drag calculations in game.
Still for missiles of its class its insanely high
Funny as the ASTER missile is a lot thinner and more aerodynamic than the literal block that is the Buk
For some reason the devs seem to think Russian sams are only limited in range by guidance time, and that Nato Sams are only able to hit their max range through guidance time alone and have no kinetic performance at all
It’s the same thing with the Pantsir-S1

i mean isn’t aster 30 really small compared to 9m317m? ik it has a really power booster stage and then it seperates for a puny second stage, while 9m317m just has one really good booster and then a really long sustainer.
9m317m also uses a thrust vector control system similar to mica em

The dart doesn’t burn for long, but it’s not supposed to decelerate this fast, even unpowered
i think the main issue is the way they model how these missiles loft , idk if its the altitude or distance but when the target is further they loft much better and maintain soo much more energy than when u shoot at a target 10-20km away which they end up missing.
It makes sense it’s worse than the buk missile though, im not sure about why it has such high drag but the motor it self is not impressive. it makes sense why it has such a worse motor than buk due to its weight.

i dont understand where the devs pull these calculations from ngl, the combined 2 stage motor has about as much burn time as just an aim120c
i think it will be better if they fix its drag n increase its max speed by a bit.
It does have a smaller motor, that being said it doesn’t have to propel a 60kg warhead like the buk
And its 2 stages, so it doesn’t carry all its remaining mass for the whole trip.

BTW the Buk-M3 can reliably shoot down incoming munitions due to its massive warhead, probably the best in the game, 6 Kh-38MTs and 14 out of 20 GBU-39s but the guy ran out of missiles so it could’ve been all of them
yeah aster has around double the drag coefficient over buk which idk why. although this isn’t the only thing that affects drag, it’s a major component
