The SAMP/T 'Mamba' - History, Design, Performance & Discussion

Yup it would seem so. Derby and the japanese one seems to have the same issue

I mean i’d expect Aster to have a higher Cdk than a capped SLM or a CAMM (seing as the dart has a fair chunk of control surfaces), but still, 1.7 is quite brutal

is there any bug report on how sams loft ? i feel like the target distance or altitude severely affects how the missile lofts in game , the missile ends up saving a lot more energy when the target is super far and it wastes a lot of energy (due to a bad loft) when the target is closer which reduces its range significantly.

I think it’s not even a question of loft at this point

Shot a F-15 at 11.5km altitude and 17km true distance the other day (already mentionned in this topic i think)

Missile stopped burning after travelling 8km, reaching mach 4.4. By the time it hit at 17km, it was only mach 2.7, so a Mach 1.7 decrease while gliding in thin air.

Vizender also seem to have sources indicating it is supposed to still be at high speeds after 50s, and i saw a report indicating the time-to-distance was incorrect

EDIT : 50s, not 15s

Is there any hope of this Bug Report which got accepted that they’ll adjust the multipath values?

unlikely because multipath is common to all missiles

That being said, and considering BUK’s addition and its massive warhead, i think it’s time for multipath to go, at least for SAMs

Speaking of Buk, I just noticed its missiles do not have I band seeker like literally every other ARH missile in the game and instead use J band. Does that have any significant impact on the missile’s guidance?

but even 17km is quite close i think you would notice a pretty big difference when u fire a missile at a target 20km away vs a target 50 km away. i dont think its possible to test this atm because the radar does not work beyond 20km.

in game i don’t think so, except for RWRs being or not being able to detect it of course

Aster and Mica should also be J band funnily enough

IRL i think it makes for a narrower FOV, but it’s already represented in game with the 3.5° BUK gets. Could be wrong on that one though

Is there even any rank 7 and higher aircraft that doesn’t detect J band?

Ah yes, rules for thee but not for me.

I don’t think so

When MICA was introduced on Mirage 2000 i think the SPO-15 on some old Mig29s would have been unable to detect it…
… Which would have caused some balancing issues

I see.

Anyway, I really hope Gaijin fixes the most pressing issues regarding both the radar and the missile. I only really play Japan and Italy, and since Gaijin put very little care into Tan-SAM kai (lacks major features, suffers to major bugs, inaccuracies etc.), my only chance for a good AA is SAMP/T.

j-11a at 13.7 can’t detect j band (chinese equivalent of su-27sm)

Oof well damn

let’s not make MICAs seeker J band for now then

Thing is OP enough as is

If BUK gets its J band though, i think so should Aster

Anyway folks, which do you like better? The Italian Iveco, or the French Renault?

I find the heavy-duty look of the Iveco cooler, not gonna lie.

italian one looks more aggressive and military-like

french one seems like a dream to hide somewhere on cargo port though. Fold the antennae and it almost looks like any civilian truck

I was informed the 20km + dead zone for radar detection was essentially a bug, and it will likely be fixed soon.

Yes the conditions by which longer distances and speed are achieved seem to align with the longer engagement time, especially based on the firing arcs Aster 30 usually has when intercepting targets irl.

It seems to align currently in game with what is known about the IRL missile ?

Not sure if i follow

Hopefully we get some bug fix today

i think he meant that loft profile significantly affects its range. i hope they fix its radar soon so ppl can test it at long range. but i think the missile is still underperforming kinematically.

DevServers close tomorrow and ASTER + Arabel got barely any fixes great. Meanwhile the BUK-M3 has a bullshit non existant missile that gaijin probably invented most of its stats and it got buffed in .23 dev version. GREAT Gaijin… GREAT. Couple that with Kh38 buffs and new heli missile they got Gaijin is doing a Sky Guardian 2.0.
