The PUMA’s are relatively okay vehicles except for 1 huge flaw that bothers me whenever I play them.
If your turret gets penned by anything, it is almost guaranteed to set off the ammo,. This would be fine if this thing didn’t only have 4 belts, but it does, making it so that way it’s effective play style (a hull down / hidden auto cannon vehicle) absolutely useless.
Since they are not very competitive vehicles already, I think they should get ammo boxes to replenish their ammo (and spikes for the VJTF). This I believe would be perfectly fine, as they aren’t crazy strong or anything of that nature and it would allow the to be played more effectively.

War Thunder is not leaning torwards a more complex team-based game I.e. infantry fighting vehicles acting as engineers for the team, ammo boxes came out as solution for anti-air vehicles that couldn’t reach nowhere near the middle of the map and sit in the captured zone to reload, the fact self-propelled guns get this is a symptom of this solution.

While true, the problem is that a good majority of the time the PUMA is useless as it gets its ammo shot and it can’t really do much to rearm. It would be nice if it could be a little more effective by adding this.

Definitely, although I would like to see a expansion for infantry fighting vehicles, with proper infantry. This wouldn’t let into a Armored Warfare situation because it’s completely off War Thunder and they did it right rather than those vehicles being just autocannons with meaningless objectives around flanking and scouting.
But I doubt War Thunder will ever expand to that at the medium-term. Regarding PUMAs’ ammo box, in my opinion, away from the true scenario, it would be good, a lot of vehicles would benefit from that but at the end of the day is up to Gaijin, they took their time to add ammo boxes for anti air vehicles, it will take their time and will to do the same for vehicles like the PUMA and others.

would love to see this but imo this willl be very overpowered, if you get a good open map you can just camp and launch off infinite spike
Well, the ammo box only allows for limited replenishing. (1 full ammo load if I remember correctly).
This gives the PUMA 8 Spikes. This is already less than the 10 the Freccia gets. And Spikes are downright abysmal most of the time. They love to not launch and when they do, they go right into the turret cheek of an Abrams or into the turret of a T-80.
freccia can only launch two missile at a time and then it must wait a while during that time your enemy will most likely reposition, find cover or try to attack as soon as you peek and laser warning systems even tell you the direction of the attack
fire and forget missile are only 50/50 effective and these will rather hit an obstacle or missile path get disrupted by smoke grenade which is the ultimate counter (and very common) for you cant lock into an enemy behind a smoke courtain and that defeat it-s effectiveness in comparison to regular atgm which can still try against smoke, in most case scenarios it only registers a hit on the cannon, critical hit or blows up an ERA panel due to it having no top attack option
the ammo box is not intended to fix the low ammo count more than it is aimed at giving it a second chance to replenish itself instead of becoming useless just like every tank has a second chance to repair and fight back again, im sure lots of people would complain if their tank couldnt be repaired at all and just stayed there useless for the whole match in this case its more or less that same issue
So does Puma and other F&F carriers.
Its not like PUMA can launch all 4 missiles simultaneously.

Not to mention that after you spent all your missiles you’re left with inaccurate back scratcher that can’t even reliably destroy tracks
