During the Vietnam War one of the pilots flying F-105 Thunderchiefs was Donald Joseph Kutyna.
Born in 1933 in Chicago, Kutyna never forgot about his Polish ancestors. From December 1969 to January 1971 served a combat tour with 44th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Takhli Royal Thai Air Force base. He completed 120 combat missions flying F-105.
He decorated his “Thud” with two artworks. Inscription “The Polish Glider” placed on aircraft air intakes. This suggestion is about it. It was painted on both sides of the Thunderchief.

Promoted to the rank of General on April 1st 1990. In 1992 Kutyna retired with 4500 flying hours on 25 fighters and bombers.
His aircraft, F-105D 59-1822, is part of display at Polish Aviation Museum in Kraków, Poland.
