Today we’d like to cover the improved aircraft damage models and new multifunctional display screens (MFD) that we’re preparing for the next War Thunder update.
MoreDetailed Aircraft Damage Models
Our work on each update not only involves creating new vehicles, but also bringing existing vehicles up to modern War Thunder standards. As you may have noticed, new aircraft and helicopters feature detailed renderings of internal modules and systems, with cues indicating what happens when a module is damaged. But all the while, we’re also simultaneously upgrading the damage models of existing vehicles to this standard. To achieve this, our model designers once again return to their favorite vehicles already conquering the skies of War Thunder. The developers study detailed blueprints, photographs, and sometimes even prefabricated models to meticulously model and correctly place internal modules.
In the next update, we’re preparing detailed internals and improved damage models for over 80 (!!!) vehicles in the game, and we’re sure your favorites will be there too!
New MFD Screens
Yep, air combat is becoming increasingly complex. We’re always working on new radar systems, targeting algorithms, and of course, new advanced weapons. In the next major update, we’ll keep working on new screens and features for multifunction displays (MFDs) in aircraft cockpits so that you can use the new high-tech additions in an even more authentic way.
Among other features, pilots can look forward to LANTIRN targeting pod screens for the F-14B, F-15, and F-16 fighters, an ATFLIR pod screen for the some of the F/A-18 family members, a radar screen, and an AGM-65 air-to-ground missile screen for the F-4 Phantom II. Flight instrument and engine screens will be added for the Z-10 and Z-19 series helicopters, and the EC-665 Tiger will receive a weapons targeting page on the right display.
Oh nice, I’m exited for the weapons targeting page of the Eurocopter Tiger, even if it is a small-ish addition. Also, the F-4 missile screen is awesome for SIM!
Thats very cool. Will you now be able to move around the laser and target tanks form the cockpit instead of having to go into the targeting pod view? because that would be very epic
Any hope for making the targeting screens useable from the cockpit MFD’s? Would be great for these screens to be useable instead of just there for looks.
Very much looking forward at those changes - especially as I have already reported missing/wrong MFD implementation and HUD symbolism.
That said, often discussed issues that especially Sim pilots struggle with are the following things, that I hope are taken into consideration when those MFD changes were developped:
Sensors & Weapons are not controllable in 3D cockpit view, so having those informations/views on MFD’s is for a relatively large part only cosmetic
MFD’s are very incomplete and inconsistent between types, a lot of pages are missing, or implemented wrong, or even placed wrong in the sense of pages/information not shown on the right display (I hope that patch tackles especially also that) ( [Dev] Missing pages on MFD’s (F/A-18, all variants) // Gaijin.net // Issues)
With 2, 3 notable exceptions (Su-30’s, F/A-180s and I think also A-10’s), not a single modern aicraft has a HUD with working flight path marker / velocity vector)
Quite a few aircraft still today lack proper HUD/sight symbolism for CCRP (or analogous) use, lacking any indication for sim pilots to use this release mode in Sim. Noteworthy examples are almost all F-4 variants, F-105, A-4’s).
So, again, very much looking forward to test those new MFD improvements!!! = )
thats an apg70 currently on the in game f15e
thats an apg82 on the f15e RMP and f15EX or other Advanced eagle variants
the radar seems to be modeled as a apg82 in this post
