most top missile’s effective range is about 10km, SPYDER and SLAMRAAM is even smaller.
and about it’s warhead, it has similar warhead size as RAM’s WDU-17/B, which has a explosive mass of 3.58kg in game
i mean those top tier IR missiles all need a buff or reduced BR.
amraam and derby all goes subsonic around 12km they are not much , and the swedish sls falls down at 10km with just having 4 missiles battle rating is fine just need some changes
What about mi28nm it should go 13.0 because no ir will touch it
My calculation is similar to the original poster’s, but there are two main differences:
- I only considered the widest part of the missile’s outer diameter as the engine compartment, so the engine length I obtained is slightly shorter than the original poster’s—about 1.67 meters, as shown in the figure. Consequently, the estimated total impulse of the missile is also lower; I arrived at a value of 80 kNs.
- I assumed that the FB-10A missile uses the same solid rocket propellant as the PL-8 missile, with a specific impulse of 232 seconds. Based on this, I calculated the propellant mass to be approximately 35 kilograms, which is nearly identical to the poster’s estimation.
The final thrust allocation is shown in the calculation section of the figure below, with the total velocity increment of the FB-10A reaching 1160 meters per second. As for the drag coefficient, I fully agree with the poster’s view that Cxk≈1.3. I only completed the calculation part and did not conduct any testing—so sorry about that.
its reasonable since gaijin give a new mechanism, its BR shall be reevaluate. But I don’t think that will affect Russian’s Top tier much since they got Kh38s that is much easier to CAS.

I have a doubt about the length of PL-11AE, your calculations is based on PL-11AE is same length of PL-11, but PL-11AE is a totally different missile, based on the picture, I think PL-11AE is about 4m. so we can get the FB-10A is more than 2.9m, almost 3m
I believe your skepticism is entirely reasonable. China maintains strict confidentiality regarding its weaponry, so we are unable to obtain precise data and can only make educated guesses. Based on the image you provided, it does seem that the PL-11AE missile might be slightly longer than we initially estimated–which should be about 4 meters.
some comparing of PL-11AE and PL-11, and I found that it’s more closer to PL-15 actually, almost same cabin layout
so based on 4m PL-11AE, the engine compartment should be 2.05m/1.8m based on your different way of measurement
The performance gap between the FB-10 and FB-10A in the game is currently appalling. The missile’s overload is too low; even in head-on engagements, fourth-generation fighters can easily dodge the missile with a simple barrel roll. How is it that the FB-10A, with a 160mm warhead diameter, has a mere 1.2kg of explosives? While the Pantsir’s 95Ya6 missile, with a 90mm diameter, boasts a hefty 5.5kg?
Furthermore, Chinese defense vendors clearly showcase on their official websites that the FB-10 and FB-10A missiles feature composite guidance beyond IIR (Infrared Imaging Guidance), specifically updated command guidance. Even if it’s uncertain whether it’s SACLOS (Semi-Automatic Command to Line Of Sight) + IR, it should at the very least be implemented as IR + datalink guidance. The current FB-10A lacks even basic imaging guidance and has no datalink capability. Even the oldest Russian Strela-10 SAM can lock onto helicopters using imaging guidance, yet the latest FB-10 and FB-10A are helpless against helicopters at just 4km. This bias is utterly disgusting.
Additionally, why does Gaijin think its maximum speed is only 725 m/s? Also, the implementation of the new US Humvee AA vehicle’s 9X and 120C7 missiles is extremely disappointing; their speed can’t even keep up with advanced fourth-generation fighters. Why is Gaijin unwilling to publicly disclose the sources they used to create these?
The missile was launched at 10 km, and after the 8 km power stage, the speed dropped very quickly. The su33 in the video made a large angle turn, causing the aircraft to have no energy and no maneuvering, so the missile could hit successfully
I uploaded a video【FB10A导弹视角测试】 FB10A导弹视角测试_哔哩哔哩bilibili_战争雷霆
Currently, the performance of the FB10A in the game is truly abysmal. With low-G tolerance, slow speed, and being effortlessly outrun by top-tier aircraft, it also lacks imaging guidance—a feature even the much lower-tier Strela-10M possesses. It’s shocking that a top-tier anti-air missile fails to effectively counter drones. Currently, this missile can’t even effectively engage targets within 10km, rendering its effective range far below its claimed 17km in-game. Furthermore, despite its 160mm warhead diameter, it carries a dismal payload of just 1.2kg of explosives.
No radio command control, no declared speed, no range, no overload. This anti-aircraft gun can do nothing against helicopters. Capture starts from 4-5 kilometers depending on the type of helicopter. The Orion drone was captured only at 3 kilometers and this is for 12.0 brothers!!! 🤭
another view on the energy maintenance of the FB10A vs AIM 120C7
The only way I found to shoot down high-altitude aircraft is to launch 2 to 3 missiles. The first 2 will force the aircraft to maneuver to dodge the missile, which will cause a loss of energy, thanks to which the 3rd missile will be able to shoot down the aircraft. But of course, the FB10A remains very underperforming compared to reality.
The performance of CS/SA5 in war thunder is far below what a 12.0 BR should be. Chinese vehicles developed by war thunder consistently underperform in terms of capabilities.
What can i say.
crazy how the correct research gives correct data. if only the bug report devs would accept something like this
From testing, the FB-10 rocket motors burns out at 4500m and the FB-10A at 7500m, coincidentaly the data of max altitude of these missiles are also 4500m and 7500m respectively…
The FB-10A is absolutely abysmal It’s can’t lock a drone (MQ9)>3km
It’s clear as day that the FB-10A has dual mode guidance, you can’t make an IR missiles of this class without it.
All available material mentions “IR staring” so it uses a FPA or “staring array” sensor and “update command” which sounds like Datalink.
And then there’s the fact that Gaijin gave it 8 DL channels which does nothing
