The modeling of the F-5 seems incorrect

The canopy looks too big and the rear fuselage looks too small.

What do you guys think?

their model the way they are so they have a chance at their br if you too k the chaff and flares away it be at F-100 level br and not fun to fight plus what model of the F-5 are you useing as a scource?

he’s speaking of 3D model,… the Flare pod and cockpit doesn’t fit real dimensions in his PoV,…

I understand that you are sensitive to balance.

But I was just talking about the 3D modeling of the f-5A,C.

it would basically just be a faster and more maneuverable f-100 actually cause they get the same missiles

not sensative to balance I was one of the people wanting it’s br increased due to how manuvrable it was vs things that could not fight it

The look identical.
Cameras can distort shapes.

Different F-5s use different noses. Some have the so-called ‘sharknose’ from the F-20. The Swiss F-5Es for instance have the LEXs from the F-20 too.

LEX was implemented on F-5E (in 1972), and F-20/F-5G (from 1982) got those from it.

please do not confuse yourself.

he is still speaking of 3D MODELING,… you’re speaking of Gameplay issues - 2 DIFFERENT MATTERS

The LEX used by the F-20 is different than on the early model F-5Es. The F-20 LEX was then implemented along with the sharknose on some late model F-5Es, like the Swiss ones. See for yourself:

Please check yourself before you make claims about things you don’t understand…

You showed me 2 F-5E,… and not a single F-20,…

(F-20 have single engine, btw)

Also looks pretty much the same to me.

Just look at the one in game and compare it to the F-5E

Or continue to be confidently wrong, it makes no difference to me.

I don’t say F-5E US and Swiss aren’t different,… i’m saying that this statement:

Is wrong,… because F-20 was developped after the end of F-5E programs either US and Swiss.

You can also speak of the F-5 Tiger III, carrying Python-3.

Differences and variants are normal, same thing happenned with mirage 3/5 family

The F-20 began development in 1975, production of the F-5 ceased in 1987 when the final one was delivered to Bahrain; there was plenty of overlap between these two aircraft. The new nose and LEX were improvements carried over from the F-20 program into some new production F-5Es.

Swiss F-5’s were bought and signed in 1976 after the 1975 trials through the Tender of 1975 swiss program

A second batch came in later 1981-1984

Yes, all existing F-5Es had the nose and LEX modified to the new production standard.

The two side profiles aren’t shot from the exact same point.

The upper N-156F (technically not a F-5A at least not in this scheme, although it was later renamed YF-5A) appears to be pictured from a different pov, only slightly but enough to change apparent lines and angles (eg compare the cutoff of the hanger door)

The N-156F is lightly loaded with a visibly extended noseleg. This would raise the nose and also highlight the sllight hump of the initial canopy shape which appears to be unique to the prototypes (a pointer that this was indeed meant to be a N-156F, plus the difference on undenose antenna?) The Norwegian F-5A has a smoothly contoured canopy and pics show this too.

All of this could simply be visual illusion, or very clever modelling and there are indeed different game models (or at least swappable components). Maybe it got tweaked for the F-5C and there are now two floating around?

I thought so too before I saw DCS modeling.

Good point, thank you.

Gaijin’s modeling is great.
However, it is also true that older models often have inaccuracies.

If you look at the last picture, you can clearly see the changes in the canopy.
