Fair enough
I completely agree. The MiG-29M (9-15) was intended to be the main, mass-produced variant of the Fulcrum had the Soviet Union not disintegrated. And despite never being mass-produced, that didn’t prevent the YAK-141 being added as a progression vehicle, nor the addition of a fictional F-16AJ in the Japanese tech tree.
It serves as the next logical progression over the MiG-29SMT at 13.3: it carries more missiles (x8), has better flight performance (engines & lower weight due to composites), a digital FBW and upgraded mechanical radar (the Zhuk-10M from the YAK-141) & RWR (compared to the 9.12 & 9.13). The SMT has slightly better avionics, but the extra missiles and improved flight performance make the 9.15 more viable at 13.7 and a direct counterpart to the 13.7 J-10A and 13.7 F-16C in the US tech tree.
Ideally, the MiG-29 tech tree should look like this:
BR 12.7 - MiG-29A (9.12)
BR 13.0 - MiG-29S (9.13)
BR 13.3 - MiG-29SMT
BR 13.7 - MiG-29M (9.15)
BR 14.0 (?) - MiG-35 – for a future update, BR 14.0 or above TBD
There are plenty of other MiG-29 variants to add as squadron vehicles, like the Egyptian MiG-29M2, MiG-29M OVT or a variant of the MiG-29K. But I’d suggest leaving the production MiG-29K as a progression vehicle that comes after the YAK-141.
The MiG-29K/kr in the naval line after the Yak-141 and the later post 2005 production MiG-29M and MiG-35 after the MiG-29SMT would be goated.
That is still incomplete. The MiG-29M has the louvered intakes on the leading edge root extensions deleted in favor on the Su-27 style intake covers.
Mechanics in question being joining a squadron and playing the game normally and you get it in 3 months. Just think of it as it’s coming next update and not this one.
Yes this is exactly my point in making this post.
Ah you are right
at least it now gets to join the F-16 Blk52 as the most DoA top tier if the fm doesn’t get changed
That didn’t stop them from adding the YAK-141 as a tech tree aircraft
That’s because there’s no good alternatives to fit in that line since the Yak-130 is a ground attack aircraft akin to the Hawk-200’s, while the Su-47 people would make the same complaints as the Yak-141. Also i’m fine with the Yak-141 being in the TT since it fills a niche and there’s already plenty of MiG-29/33/35’s both production and prototype variants that can still be added to the TT. The MiG-29M being a squadron vehicle isn’t too much of a lost since it could be worse, it could be a ultra-expensive premium or a event vehicle with a soul-sucking grind behind it
Also the Russian Airforce didn’t adopt the MiG-29M into service and is only used by Algeria and Egypt with attempts to sell it to Serbia, Syria and India.
or creating a fictional F-16AJ variant for the Japanese tech tree.
The F-16AJ was added because there was a massive gap in the Japanese TT with no good alternatives and was added before the Thai, Indonesian & Malay subtrees. The Thai & Indo F-16’s would be way too strong at 12.3, same goes for the Malaysian MiG-29. The AJ is also based on an actual proposal to sell the F-16A to Japan which was rejected in favour for a domestic aircraft that was heavily based on the F-16 airframe
thats a different Mig-29M than we are getting
egypt is using the Mig-29M 9-41SM for example
while the one we are getting is the Mig-29M 9-15
I am of opinion that Yak-141 wouldnt cause such ruckus if devs werent such massive hypocrites.
EAP getting missiles? Nuh uh never fitted so no what if config.
Yak-141 getting avionics it never had? Whats few sensors between comrades :^)
Which is ultimately shame, they shot themselves into the foot because now they cant add Su-47, one actual aircraft id love to see.
Sensors are still a bit different topic that entire weapon system. Tho i think that 141 should loose IRST because it was never even planned for it AFAIK. But things like RWR or Countermeasures are a fair game in my opinion, because those are at least planned for serial production vehicles. And this also, sadly, makes Su-47 impossible to add to the game, avionics and fire control system wasn’t even in a development stage.
As i said, devs shot themselves into the foot.
Thank God
Would rather have 29m as tech tree now and not wait another 2 years for a mig29 improvement thats doa cause it isnt gaijins favourite flanker flavour
id much rather wait than have to grind another 400k rp and 1.5m sl
YES BRO, WHY IS IT SQUADRON, isnt the su33 enough and maybe actually add squadron vehicles to nations that need it like italy
If it takes you more than 2 months to grind 400k rp, then ig squadrons were made for you, most of the playerbase can get it done much earlier though
Life of a Flanker in War Thunder wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows, you know. But 9.15 at least opens the road for 29K and 35, because they share the airframe in general, with some quirks of their own, being based on upgraded chassis of 9.31 prototype.
