The Leopard 2A8NO Is in the Wrong Branch

Leopard 2A8NO should be placed after the Finnish Leopard 2A6, not the Strv 122B+

On the current Eagle’s Shadow dev server, the Norwegian Leopard 2A8NO is placed after the Strv 122B+.

I think it would make considerably more sense to place it after the Finnish Leopard 2A6 instead.

There are several reasons for this.

1. It continues the existing foreign Leopard line

The Finnish branch already progresses through:

Leopard 2A4
↓
Leopard 2A6

The Leopard 2A8NO would make a natural continuation:

Leopard 2A4
↓
Leopard 2A6
↓
Leopard 2A8NO

Obviously Norway is not Finland, but this branch already represents foreign Nordic Leopard 2s within the Swedish tree. The 2A8NO fits that role much better than being attached to the end of the native Swedish Strv line.

2. The Strv 122 line has its own logical successors

The current Swedish MBT line ends with the Strv 122B+.

Sweden is now introducing the Strv 123A based on the Leopard 2A7, which is a major modernization of the existing Strv 122, as well as the newly produced Strv 123B based on the Leopard 2A8 S.

This gives the Swedish line a very clear future progression:

Strv 122A / Strv 122B PLSS
↓
Strv 122B+
↓
Strv 123A
↓
Strv 123B

Putting the Norwegian 2A8NO after the Strv 122B+ unnecessarily interrupts this progression and could make the placement of the Strv 123A and 123B more awkward later.

3. It gives the Finnish branch a purpose at top tier

At the moment the Finnish Leopard 2A6 is effectively a dead end.

Adding the 2A8NO after it gives players a reason to continue researching that branch and spreads Sweden’s top tier MBTs across the tree instead of putting another vehicle behind the already very long Strv 122 branch.

It would also provide a straightforward progression from the 13.0 Leopard 2A6 into the new 13.3 Leopard 2A8NO.

4. It separates the two logical MBT families

The resulting tree would be much cleaner.

Native Swedish line:

Strv 121
↓
Strv 122A
↓
Strv 122B PLSS
↓
Strv 122B+
↓
future Strv 123A / 123B

Foreign Nordic Leopard line:

Finnish Leopard 2A4
↓
Finnish Leopard 2A6
↓
Norwegian Leopard 2A8NO

This would preserve space for Sweden’s actual future MBTs while giving the existing Finnish Leopard branch a logical top tier continuation.

For these reasons, I think the Leopard 2A8NO should be moved behind the Finnish Leopard 2A6 before the update reaches the live server.

  • After the Finnish Leopard 2A6
  • After the Strv 122B+
  • Somewhere else

Agreed, the second line is the strv line, and should stay the strv line

I also agree with this, there have been a few questionable placements in the last few patches and this one frankly stands out the most.

As the 2A8 stands as the successor to that of the 2a7v being built from scratch it still sadly holds the same armour values, I have research to back this claim, as it says here. “According to a Ministry of Defence statement, additional improvements in the A8 variant include better armour and an overall rework of situational-awareness and fire-control features for the crew.” Yes I know it’s still the first day of the dev server being out and these changes might come around, but I feel like the 2A8 was rushed, it’s supposed to be a special “new” tank as it’s built from scratch and yet it’s just a 2a7v with APS, no armour improvement, no nothing. Besides the yapping I do agree with the fact the norwegian 2A8 should be in the foreign sub tree, makes no sense to put it into the STRV line.

i also hope to see the Strv 123A soon and this placement would mess with that a lot more than it needs
and the fins dont have any tanks at this moment that could even be placed after the 2A6

Yes I’ve been waiting so long to see the so longed STRV123A and B variant, it’d be nice but knowing the community they’ll complain that Sweden will now have too many MBTS. I’d honestly trade the norwegian 2A8 for the 123a and b variant any day.

i wouldnt trade it since the 2A8NO is just better and i have wanted APS for a while now
the 123A exists now and is effectively a 2A7 (maybe the V idk)

the 123B will be the 2A8 when its made

probably this tbh

please no

Strv 123A and 123B can be foldered
but the 2A8NO should really go into the finnish line

Yes I know, but again this is coming from my opinion as I have germany so I don’t really need the norwegian one. But I do see where you’re coming from!

i think the only logical way for the swedish tt to be organized is

Light
Swedish MBT
SPAA
TD/ATGM
Nordic MBT

this would also embrace the hopefully eventual introduction of more Nordic vehicles into the swedish techtree

Wouldn’t be hard for gaijin to accomplish this, I do like the idea

it would take little to no effort and make so much sense both rn and for the future

I do agree, but simply gaijin as they’ve always been doing, they make things difficult. And as for the 2a8 having same armour values kinda triggers me because why announce something so big and yet it’s just another copy and paste with one thing changed, this as far goes for my opinion anyways.

The right most line isn’t “foreign” though, it’s Finland.

I have no take on this matter personally.

If you’re for changing the Finnish line to be more than Finland, I’d suggest you edit your post to show that.

It’s not the main part of the post and in the same trans the line where it’s currently in is the Swedish like where it fits less
