this as im aware does not have an ISBN right?

for now i will put the book code, should be enough (RO80189880)

Also little sidenote, the LWS on AZUR got acknoledge, but what it does mean? We can get it or? Community Bug Reporting System

I’m guessing gaijin sees the whole “passive” thing in the sense that any armor is passive, as opposed to Active Protection Systems like the soft kill EIREL or hard kill Iron Fist.

It’s kind of a twisted way to look at it, but given gaijin’s track record…

This seems to suggest that it’s some kind of composite/ERA mix if I’m reading this right?

“Traditionally the highest level of protection of armored fighting vehicles is over the frontal arc”

Meanwhile, the Leclerc in game:

But hey, it’s not as if we knew that the Leclerc met Sweden’s 400mm KE protection or anything 🙄

Might be a translation error in regards to “passive protection”.

That’s what I understand too but this poses a problem because it means that if a round hits, the explosives will activate and the block will blow up, therefore working as some sort of ERA

Here’s an excerpt from the newly acquired magazine:

1 (Red): “The Leclerc equipped with the AZUR add-on armor. This add-on armor uses passive lateral blocks along with SLAT armor designed by Nexter Systems. About fifteen of these AZUR kits were bought by the UAE Land Forces and used in Yemen. The UAELF also acquired reactive add-on armor kits from Dynamit Nobel, named “CLARA” and using “explosive sandwich” technology, where steel plates were replaced by fiber glass pannels meant to reduce collateral damage.”

2 (Blue): “Close-up of the AZUR lateral blocks which are directly mounted on the original skirt. This combination allows for protecting the tank against shaped charge rockets like RPGs fired at 90° and heavy threats in the frontal arc.”

These sentences in my opinion reinforce the idea of the AZUR kit being made of NERA, passive armor, which is why the N°1 text talks about the CLARA kit in a different way, as the latter uses ERA, active armor for protection

The way I understand it yeah. The “Mille-feuille” is funnily enough this:

so literally multiple layers and probably the first layer being ERA then to prevent further damage of high caliber shaped charge warheads to weaken the armor in multiple hits

Not the full block. It’s about the internal composite of Leclerc not the side skirts.

This includes the “Scorpion” system mounting the 3 heavy skirts the Leclercs have over the whole side. Meaning it has even further protection even when flat on and on an angle.

“To keep the Leclerc safe from new threats, a study which aims to give the XXI Leclercs new armor is started in the end of the 1990s. Having designed the first removable armor blocks in the world greatly eases the workload of the Satory engineers. For the Leclerc XXI, the technical approach consists of replacing the passive blocks of lateral armor (most probably the sides of the turret) for much lighter reactive modules (so what we have in game, I assume). The weight gained is then used on the frontal arc, which allows, thanks also to the use of titanium, to bring the protection to the level required.
The other positive consequence is the moving of the center of gravity of the turret (reinforcing the assumption that it was in fact the composite sides of the turret that were replaced with reactive armor on the SXXI) towards the front, near perfectly on the rotation axis, therefore helping the dynamic aiming of the servo-controls.
This threat analysisalso takes into account acions in urban terrain, for which we wish to increase protection on the flanks and rear sectors. This is obtained with SLAT armor against shaped charge rockets like RPG-7s and with light blocks of passive armor derived from those created a few years earlier as part of the Australian project Waler. (Will translate the [2] after this text)
This armor kit is named Action en Zone URbaine (AZUR). The Emirati ground forces acquire these armor kits (about a dozen) and successfully commit the Leclerc AZUR in Yemen.”

[2]: “The AMX-APX studied a family of 6x6 vehicles derived from the AMX-10RTT (an AMX-10RC with the engine at the front). The Waler had to cover most of the needs of the Australian mechanized infantry: Command post, All-terrain vehicle, fire support, mortar, recovery and missile launching. The Walers were protected by passive composite “anti-RPG” blocks of armor of which their volume was also used for the floatability of the vehicle.”

what do we need to do to be heard?? do anti-game on the Russian nation allanand, American ?? should we wage war on Gajin?

Yeah, this one is absolutely clear cut and pretty undisputable. And as you pointed out, they even use a different language when talking about the CLARA kit.

Combined with other quotes using the same language, it hopefully should be enough proof to change gaijin’s mind.

I didn’t know that it was mounted over the original sideskirt, and I’m almost certain that gaijin didn’t either because from memory the protection is the same across the whole side of the tank when it should be better on the 30 degrees arc based on this information.

Unfortunately the dev server has closed, so I can’t check it to make a bug report on it :< This’ll have to wait until the update hits the live server, unless someone has multiple screenshots from the protection analysis.

Oh no that’s the difference over the years (2006 first seen, 2011 improved, 2016 exchanged SLAT for more composite IIRC) the 2006 is the one in game. What I think they did was figure out that it’s more simple and much faster to mount if you just hang additional Armor over the already mounted one instead of having to exchange one for another. Same of course with production cost and replaceability

For explanation:

And there probably are more variations but these are the ones I know ATM

The AZUR 2016 is that of Leclerc Eau.

Unsure. It features a different RWS. This one has additional smoke launchers mounted to it

Edit: My bad that’s a demonstrator for SCORPION (which features some upgrades from AZUR)

Looks like the FLW 200.
FLW 200

Very much looks like one. Let me guess 12.7 with thermals?

Yep, either 7,62mm, 12,7mm or 40mm grenade launcher. Stabilised and thermals.

40mm HE or HEDP?
