Semyon Alekseevich Lavochkin was born on September 11th 1900. In 1939-40, together with V.P. Gorbunov and M.I. Gudkov, they developed the LaGG-3 fighter, which was widely used at the beginning of the Second World War. This aircraft led to the creation of its successors: the La-5, one of the most widely produced fighter aircraft during the war, and its further development, the La-7.
Dolgushin’s La-7 and the La-11 (rank IV) are temporarily available for purchase for 3850 and 4880 Golden Eagles respectively.
When: From September 11th (11:00 GMT) until September 15th (11:00 GMT).
Where: USSR > Aviation > Premium vehicles.
About this aircraft
S.F Dolgushin was a Soviet ace with 28 aerial victories to his name. This number is emblazoned on the side of the La-7 that Dolgushin flew in the final days of the Second World War. At low altitudes, the La-7 retains excellent speed, maneuverability and rate of climb, and is armed with two 20 mm ShVAK cannons with 340 rounds of ammunition.
About this aircraft
The La-11 was one of the last Soviet piston fighters, a development of the La-9 with an increased fuel capacity. It’s a fairly heavy aircraft, equipped with three 23 mm NS-23 cannons that can easily deal with fighters and bombers.
It’s my 2nd most played and profitable plane
La-11 was very good a few years back, but I do not play up that high in BR too much any more. Although I did play the Chinese La-11 a good deal here recently. . . it is good as well
Imho it would be nice if you would add for which game mode your recommendation is - because this might be helpful for potential buyers.
As you are a vet with focus on Air AB i trust your judgement for Air Arcade - but for Air Realistic there are some things to mention:
The La-11 needs an experienced pilot in Air RB - the game play in Air RB at 5.3 is tough and the way heavier aircraft (compared to the La-9 at BR 6.0) produces a way worse flight performance. In other words: You have to invest way more time to think about positioning.
I fly the Chinese BR 4.7 P-38 L quite often and i see my teammates in La-11s struggling as soon as they are rather new players - as most experienced enemy players simply deny their head-on attempts.
The La-7 is without any doubt an excellent aircraft (worth to buy) and was a while ago buffed (handling) by gaijin. But to be fair: The main part of their success is carried by the legacy BR of 4.7 in Air RB. This was ok a few years ago as it was no problem to survive multiple hits from their ShVak cannons - but these times are long gone.
It was “ok” that they had a lower BR as they needed way more hits to get a kill - but with Real Shatter 2.0/3.0 (and the ballistic update) gaijin transformed the (historically correct) weakest 20 mm cannon into the 2nd best (US AN/M2 20 mm is #1) cannon in the game. If you are really lucky you can survive 1 hit of (FI-T) a ShVak ("just a fleshwound"😂) but usually a second hit returns you to the hangar - at least if you fly a fighter.
I am not sure why gaijin “forgot” to increase the BR of the ShVak armed fighters, but sooner or later they might get the idea that they should increase their BRs as all other not cannon armed fighters have a clear disadvantage. I mean the 23mm in the La-11 was irl introduced as the ShVak had severe issues to kill 190s.
Yeah I shoulda said I played all those planes in AB, my main mode
thanks for pointing that out, because yeah . . . flight models and how you play planes can very widely mode to mode . . . good looking out.
Oh I did show that it was Arcade in my Service Record shot . . thought maybe I had forgotten too . … something I guess . . . lol
