I have a souce stating the Kh-38M missiles CEP is “several meters” and the inability to hit stuff directly is made up for by the size of the warhead, but it was from a pro-russian blogpost and didnt have any sources backing this claim up so I didnt wanna add it above. Does kind of line up with the fact the Kh-38 is stated to have an 80% chance to hit a target with no jamming though. 80% chance to hit under ideal conditions is pretty bad…
The missile class has always been claimed to be able to be used vs armored targets, but it was never specified which Kh-38M could be used vs armored targets. The original theory was that the Kh-38MT’s seeker was like the AASM and used IIR to improve accuracy of the missile against static targets in a GPS denied environment, with the laser guided ML to be used vs mobile targets, but the more I dug for info trying to figure out if the MT could hit moving targets, the more I realized the only evidence the MT even existed was the brochure mentionning it, which is what ended up leading to this post
Assuming that the KH-38MT/MTE actually does not exist and was restricted to being only a mockup AND Gaijin decides to keep it in game:
It is only fair that other nations get such weaponry as well. For example:
Best thing for the game balance-wise would be to remove it, the fact its likely never been more than a mockup, and seems to have even been abandoned as a project just reinforces that case.
The Kh-38MT is real, but rare, with almost zero public imagery and no confirmed combat footage*.
I think it’s probably produced in small batches, maybe used quietly or reserved for stealth aircraft like the Su-57.
Why so little evidence?
A few likely reasons:
Very limited production: IIR seekers are expensive, and the MT variant may be produced in smaller quantities for specific targets or aircraft (e.g., Su-57 internal carriage).
Russia’s OPSEC: Unlike Western militaries that often share HD footage of precision strikes, Russia is often very strict on information access regarding its more advanced tech.
Similar appearance across variants: All Kh-38 variants look almost identical externally. Without a clear shot of the seeker head, you can’t tell if it’s a laser, satellite, or thermal version.
You know it has roughly the same size as a maverick seeker.
So you are saying it is impossible to have an IR seeker that is this small.
Maybe IR mavericks don’t exist as well then
Those are Kh-38ME, the site you linked refers to it as “Kh-38ME”, the inscription also says Kh-38ME.
Have you ever considered that “Kh-38MT” refers to a family of inertial and infrared homing air-to-ground missiles? If you just want to remove it, fine, but in a case of fixing, the most close model is the Kh-38MTE with similiar features to the Kh-38MT in-game.
