that seems quite anemic… not gonna be able to see pantsir
In terms of gameplay in War Thunder, like other aircraft that can’t detect K-band, the KF-21 was outlined to at the least be installed with a MAWS. Though I also can’t speak to if any other changes that were made to the aircraft, as it’s still undergoing development.
Spoiler

Nice, this thing just completed it’s final validations and began production too. First users likely to be Korea of course but were there any other nations who planned to purchase them?
At the moment, the KF-21 is in negotiations with Indonesia and the Philippines, There’s also several observers of the program, some who’ve also previously purchased KAI aircraft like Poland or others like Saudi Arabia or the UAE expressing interest.
K band doesnt matter that much tbf, only pantsir system uses it, a lot of upcoming modern AAs wont
Not just in negotiations with Indonesia, it is a joint project between Indonesia and South Korea, while South Korea is worried Indonesia might not be able to pay, Indonesia has stood by it’s commitments and aims to operate upwards of 40 of the airframe. The aircraft sports both South Korean and Indonesian flags on it’s nose.
I am aware of Indonesia’s stake in the project, but at the moment a formal order hasn’t been set, with even a recent Block I unit batch commitment being supposedly renegotiated for 16 Block II units.
I suppose it’d be Gaijin’s discretion whether or not to give both sub-tree’s or just South Korea. It’d be a shame indeed. I suppose all it takes is for them to receive a single Block-II officially.
Very true, it’s at Gaijin’s liberty where to add a vehicle. So far, I believe Indonesia has received their first Rafales, so that could always be added. And although only explicitly stated for F-35s, even if applied to the KF-21, even formal order was placed, pending orders aren’t in consideration.
So Indonesia wants the Block II with AGM capabilities. What’s up with the 2-seat version?

The 2-seat version at the moment is more for training purposes, with possible drone wingmen capability to be implemented in a Block III variant, or an entirely different development based on the KF-21 (if plans change). Indonesia is obligated to purchase KF-21s, though when and how many can be negotiated. The original contract stated they were to receive Prototype Unit 005, which was a single seat unit. As the “IF-21” was a program of interest. However, this was voided when their stake in the project was renegotiated. By all that’s known, technically all Block Is should be upgradeable to Block IIs, and thusly Block IIIs, once development of them is more finalised.
So Japan can get the kf21 through Indonesia if Gaijin goes through with the Indonesian rafale to Japan. Sounds good to me so Japan can get a “f22” and f35 since they doesn’t have any missiles that match meteors just like America.
More or less, though it’s best to think of it as a “maybe” imo, because it’s not a formal order, much less delivery of a single unit. Rafale is more likely because their first units have just arrived.
I think it’s the best option because I thought there was a leak where we will have 5th gen like USA vs superior missiles like Germany. Japan can fit in the 5th gen category
Odd, considering the KF-21 has bee seen carrying 4 Meteors? What do you mean by since they don’t have missiles that match meteors? Unless you mean in it’s current tech tree. F-2A has AAM-5’s which I believe are IRIS-T equivalents iirc. Maybe I’m wrong, beside, the Thailand Gripen-E should get Meteors when they do get added anyways.
Side note though, some images of KF-21 I believe prototype 6 mounting some kind of AGM/Cruise missile.

Well, the KF-21 is a 4.5 gen in its current iteration, more akin to Rafale or Eurofighter. Though Japan has F-35s.
Ohhhhhh yeah I forgot about that. Yeah that complicates things. But I think they should just add the kf21 but no meteors same missiles as f22 since it’s pretty similar to the f22 and. To my understanding no Japanese f15 or f2 can carry meteors. Idk if Thailand and Malaysia can carry meteors but not too my understanding
From what I’ve seen the prototype transfer was never officially cancelled, only third parties making assumptions.
There was some talk after the renegotiation about Indonesia wanting to instead get a twin seat prototype instead of 005, so this could be the reason there is nothing final known yet.
That would be KALCM, it’s a cruise missile that should be under development based on architecture from the Taurus Cruise missile. It’s not due for completion until the early 2030s.
I’m talking about the period before f35 comes
