Title: Balancing the JAS 39C Gripen’s Missile Loadout in War Thunder
Dear War Thunder Development Team,
I am writing to express my concerns regarding the current missile loadout limitations of the JAS 39C Gripen at BR 13.7, specifically its restriction to only four active radar homing missiles (RB 99). While I understand the importance of balancing gameplay, this limitation puts the Gripen at a significant disadvantage in top-tier matches, especially when it faces aircraft like the Su-30SM, which can carry 12 R-77-1 missiles, and the Su-27SM with 8 R-77s.
The problem is further highlighted by the fact that the Gripen can be uptiered to face BR 14.0 aircraft, including the Eurofighter Typhoon, which can carry 6 AIM-120B missiles, while the Gripen remains restricted to just four RB 99s. This situation makes it difficult for Gripen pilots to effectively compete in beyond-visual-range (BVR) combat, which is a critical aspect of modern air warfare.
I believe that one or more of the following solutions could help balance the Gripen at its current BR:
Allowing the Gripen to carry six RB 99 missiles, matching the loadout of the Eurofighter at 14.0.
Adjusting the Gripen’s BR to reflect its current limitations, ensuring it does not frequently encounter vastly superior aircraft.
Introducing the option for Gripen pilots to choose between an air-superiority loadout (more BVR missiles) or a multirole loadout (current configuration).
I hope that you will consider these suggestions to ensure a more balanced and enjoyable experience for all players. Thank you for your time and for your continued efforts to improve War Thunder.
then i dont know what u mean with air superiority loadout.
Thats already in the game if you just take only air to air missles. multirole if you take both
Look, currently gripen is in tough spot. Yes its kit is not as powerful as EFT but i dont think non-IRCCM planes should fight something that has AMRAAMs and 640x CMs.
I don’t think that is physically possible, which is a shame. Youd need a lot of good sources to prove that, for example. We have multiple secondary sources for 8x AMRAAM fit for the Typhoon but it’s been denied so far.
It’s as low as it can go, but the F15C needs to be moved up
Already is in game.
The buffs that the Gripen C needs is BOL overhaul, MAWS, centre line A2G, etc.
And agility that’s been put well below even the least charitable sources (with dubious provenance), and the fact that their consistency on g overload increases has been conveniently ignored for Gripen.
And even assuming all this was done, we’d still require gripen NG or gripen E to compete with other eurodeltas, and it really should have came when the others dropped but I would wager the spitting last time is why we do not have it.
