Don’t forget how the F-2 was DOA because Gaijin thought that it would’ve been “OP” if it was implemented any sooner.
Or how Japan is one of the three nations that would have benefited from a sub-tree (the other two being Britain with South Africa, and Italy with Hungary). Instead France got an unnecessary and unpopular sub-tree almost a year prior to Japan getting a sub-tree.
Oh, and let’s not forget how Japan had no viable CAS for the longest time. Like yes, I love dumb-bombs at top tier with the F-15! Or the fictional Japanese F-16AJ with weak Mavericks (but F-2 with laser guided bombs is OP!) The fact the Grippen was their best CAS is hilariously sad.

Then after J-11b/j-10a it falls off hard

Me too. I miss og 13.7 matchmaker as well.
I mean, the premium one with sparrows and AAM3s is kinda eh but thats mainly due to the match maker forcing you to fight 13.3s and 13.7s.
The regular in TT one i gotta say was one of the most unfun experiences ive had in a jet.
The limited amount of ARH missiles, which is even worse off than an F16C with lack of HMS makes F2A genuinely one of the least fun 13.7 planes ive played.
(yes i know you can use the horizontal and vertical movements for the radar to act as a pseudo HMS but its still not as fast as just looking with your mouse and getting a target in sight near instantly, plus if youre targeting an Su30 and it has just fired off half its missile load you gotta skim through them to target the flanker (and it might still just intercept your missiles with 77-1s))
Sure its got good FM and the AAM3s and 4s are pretty good, but the limited amount of them and HMS hurt me personally so much that i didnt like it.
Plus i tried giving it a lot of chances in GRB but LJDAMs in the current state of 12.7-13.0 are almost useless.
And at the same BR japan has both the Gripen C with great FM or the F15C MSIP II with 8 ARHs.
Id say both F2As even if not DoA were and are pretty mid.
F-2A ADTW is one of the best 13.0s in the game, the tech tree one is definitely worse off though as the low radar missile count, top speed and lack of HMS hurt it more
