The game keeps freezing ever since the update

Ever since the update, whenever I switch to another Windows window while playing, the game freezes and shows “Video driver hung and was restarted, texture quality was reduced” in the top-right corner. What’s going on with this?

BTW my cpu is amd 5600x，gpu 4070ti ，32gb ram

The message means that the graphics driver stopped responding and the client recovered by lowering texture quality; it does not identify the root cause. Since it happens while switching Windows, isolate presentation and overlay factors before reinstalling everything.

Please test the same situation with:

  1. DX11 versus DX12;
  2. Fullscreen versus borderless mode;
  3. Steam, Discord, GeForce Experience and recording overlays disabled;
  4. GPU, CPU and RAM at stock settings.

Please record whether it happens only during Alt+Tab, and include the exact WT build, NVIDIA driver, Windows version, renderer, a fresh .clog, DxDiag, and the relevant Windows Event Viewer entry (Display driver/TDR or LiveKernelEvent) from the same time.

If DX11 is stable but DX12 reproduces the freeze, use DX11 as a temporary workaround and attach the A/B results to a focused issue report. I would avoid registry TDR-delay tweaks as a first-line fix; they can hide the symptom without correcting the underlying renderer or driver problem.

GPU CPU and RAM are stock.
DX12 i didnt try,cuz i always using DX11

DX12 also causes the game to freeze—I just tried it.

Roll back the AMD patch GPU Drivers to 26.7.1, AMD has release poorly tested drivers.

This WDM problem is a compatibility issue between Windows Display Management and the graphics card. Did you use Windows tweaks and a custom ISO?

  • Start Windows in safe mode,
  • Download the DDU driver uninstaller from the official website, and clean your graphics card.
  • Then restart Windows, download the Nvidia app from the official Nvidia website, install it, configure the settings, and enter the game. Then download the latest graphics card driver.

Thank you. No worries — I already rolled back my Nvidia driver and switched the game to DX12. The issue still showed up at first, but it seems fine now. Currently, the game freezes when I switch windows, but if I Alt+Tab back and forth once more, it recovers.
