The game already has 1v1 missions why not let you matchmake them

A dedicated 1v1 matchmaker would be fun even if it gave 0 rewards

The user is requesting a MATCHMAKER so they can face random people.

No, these are literally just skill ceiling mechanics that anybody can learn. Removing Full real controls from RB just means you dumbed down the game because some bad players couldn’t handle learning to improve their gameplay…

Then, the end result would be to keep circling at the optimal AoA while constantly monitoring the data with WTRTI, but that would be boring because there is no counterplay. In fact, even some SIM duelists, let alone RBs, hates doing that.

At least there are plenty of things you can do even if the instructor is working, except boring fuel fight, and if you want to use the SIM controls, there is a game mode for that. And in some cases, the G-word is thrown around by RB duelists who are much better than us because of using sim controls.

Although not perfect, there is a reason why instructors are forced in ARB tournaments.

My guy, there is no way you can try to argue you have LESS tools available to you with sim controls than without them.

You are not getting the point.
I am not talking about “tools” what you mean.

I am talking about where people will ultimately end up if we allow sim controls.

WTRTI+SIM control is the meta in duels, you will not see any of the vertical counter maneuvers, scissors at low speeds, etc. that are very common in duels with instructors. Instead, all you see is just being super passive and boring fuel fights or something.

Those people aren’t using sim controls properly then.

You can more than have scissors, vertical maneuvers, fancy lag rolls and all that using sim controls. In fact, sim controls make them a lot more fun to execute (and more predictable, I hate how random mouse pointing feels in whether it uses rudder or aileron).

Join any random lobby that isn’t zombified and you’ll see plenty of out-of-plane maneuvering. You’ll also see a few people stall their planes out and recover.

I barely play sim duels, so I wouldn’t know, but if what you can do with RB is not huge different, it suggests that duels using sim controls should be done in their game mode, that is called Simulator Battles.

Opening duels up to matchmaking means there are a ton of people who won’t use these things… it would only become what you say if two people who BOTH use these things match together

I had an idea while exchanging DMs.

You can fly whatever control set up that is HARDER than the mode’s settings:

Full-real in RB, but not RB in sim.

HOWEVER

Given 1vs1 duels are rather short - 5 minutes, maybe 7 at best but likely over in a minute - just… lock settings.

You queue up with your controls set up and then do your best of three with those controls.

No swapping RB to sim to pull AoA then skip the stall-control aspect by swapping back to mouse. No, if you want the challenge of flying stick & rudder (virtual or physical) against mouse pointer & instructor, you fly stick and rudder - no chickening when your plane gets near a stall and going back to mouse pointer moder.

That could work but I’m more in favor of just leaving it how it is as its just a skill ceiling

I think you played 0 games in 1v1 against someone that knows how to sim, it should be removed once and for all

You’re not very convincing.

How so?

Tell that for ranking challenge.

ELO may have had something to do with it, but more players used sim controls than used KB/Mouse.
Also, most of the time what they did was to force a turning play style to mitigate the worse aim.

Not matchmaking, is it?

Ranking challenges worked like random battles, waiting in queue and gets games, rather than using an external website like tournaments.

The difference from random games was that they had a fixed amount of time to play.

SB player’s perspective on SB controls in RB tournaments.

Seems he mostly shares idea:

  1. Lock controls, cannot change during the tournament. Still gives assymetry but now you need to live with it.
  2. Arena design (spawn conditions) is brought up as well (apparently SB duels allow for more aggressive openers? He didn’t go into a lot of detail.)
  3. In his demo of it, it looked like he swapped between sim and instructor mode to aim.

One added thing that sprung to my mind as an added solution.

If using SB controls requires cockpit view as an added trade-off.

Hope they run events like that again, it was so fun. It’d have to be event and not matchmaking because obviously the queue to find someone in the same plane as you would be ages and ages

tbh, I still has PTSD for ranking battles because of sim controls xD
