“The Few” Decal, Two Fighters and Discounts for Battle of Britain Day!

The Luftwaffe had hoped to destroy RAF fighters in four days and then bomb all military bases and factories of Britain’s military within a month, but thanks to fierce British resistance, the battle dragged on for several months. On September 15th 1940, Germany made a final attempt to gain air superiority, sending more than a thousand aircraft into battle, but the RAF repulsed this attack too. “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few” Winston Churchill declared during the battle, collectively making all RAF pilots known as “The Few”.

About these aircraft

  • The LF abbreviation in the Spitfire LF Mk.IXc’s name stands for “low altitude-fighter”. This Spitfire has an impressive rate of climb and record-breaking maneuverability for its rank. This wonderful fighter was flown by Yannis Agorastos Plagis, a Royal Air Force ace who became famous in the defense of Malta in 1942.
  • The FR abbreviation in the Spitfire FR Mk.XIVe’s name stands for “fighter-reconnaissance”. This modification retained all the advantages of the Spitfire family, but received a more powerful Griffon engine and the ability to carry a 500 lb bomb. This aircraft was flown by the commander of the 414th Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force, James Prendergast, who conducted reconnaissance over Normandy before the Allied landings there.

“The Few” (Great Britain, Austria, Australia, Ireland, Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador, South Africa, Jamaica, Poland, Barbados, Belgium, USA, New Zealand, France, Czech, Southern Rhodesia) against “The Many” ( Germany, Italy)

IIRC the Spitfires in that pack weren’t yet around for the Battle of Britain though.

It would be nice if we could also play either US or French aircraft to earn the decal

Yeah its working now, thanks!

Ireland? They were neutral and anti-british.

Douglas Hyde, Ireland’s president during the second world war, offered condolences to Germany’s representative in Dublin over the death of Adolf Hitler, newly declassified records show.

Until now it was believed that Ireland’s prime minister, Eamon de Valera, was the only leader to convey official condolences, a gesture criticised worldwide.
