Those who played Air RB 3 years ago remember when the Tomcats dropped. It was terrible.
Tomcats absolutely ruled the skies for at least a solid 6 months, with little to no competition. They fought planes like the F5C and Mig-21MF, which had absolutely no chance to defeat it when the F14 is better in every discernible metric.
Those days are over. The non-IRIAF F14’s are simply bad now. The F14A has a lacking RWR that only has quadrants, while both the F14A and B have lackluster missiles and performance for their BR. This is even more heinous when you take a look at the F-15A, which gets a better FM, IRCCM missiles, and just an overall better kit while being the same BR as the F-14A.
I do not believe the F14’s should go down however. Many 11.3 planes do not have good enough RWR’s to see a Phoenix coming in from long range, nor do they have the speed and missile count to effectively combat the Tomcats. However, in their current state, something needs to be done to give them a chance to perform well. There is a reason why you see almost no F-14’s besides the IRIAF nowadays.
The F-14’s need help. As of right now, they are not really useful, unless they are in a full downtier. Other than that, they are food for fighters much better at the same tier and higher.
The solution is to implement the countless valid, accepted/outstanding F-14 bug reports (just look them up and give them an upvote), especially those concerning the AIM-54C. Then, maybe wait and hope for decompression.
I’d agree to keep their BRs where they are and simply give the F-14A the AIM-9L and the F-14B the AIM-9M (the F-15A already has the AIM-9M at 12.7) and the AIM-7MH (hardly different from the AIM-7M).
This. Exactly this. moving them up or down, or giving them some big buff, when there is so many outstanding reports is just doomed to be messy, Would lead to mroe issues down the road. Especially given the main issue is compression
I think this would be great. Right now, the F-14A being the same BR as the F-15A is criminal. Only advantage it has is Phoenixes (which are they really even an advantage?) That’s all just an issue with t he F-15A being too low though.
Decompression would help massively too. The premium Su-30MK being .3 above the F-14B with a 10 missile capacity comprised of R-27’s, R-73’s, and R-77’s, while the F-14B only gets an 8 missile capacity with Aim-9L’s, Aim-54C’s, and Aim-7F’s is ridiculous. Not to mention the Flanker flight model just being better in my opinion.
Hold on, a post on a vehicle’s issues that is actually thought-through, actually considers balance and doesn’t ask for the vehicle to go down? Maybe there’s hope for this community after all
When F-14A were completely dominated the meta because there were no counterparts…
All I saw was making Phoenix a scrapegoat, and acting F-14A wasn’t overpowered.
“Phoenix are just a skill check, watch your skies for contrails, and just multipath it”
(When there were planes from the 1950s with no RWR facing them, and the F-14A was better on other parts too because it was one of the first 4th gen fighters that added to the game)
Then, after releasing F-14A IRIAF and Fakour-90
“Fakour-90 is also a skillcheck missile, why are you lads frighten to faster phoenix when you need to face R-27ER?”
And today.
Calling the major reason why she stuck to 13.3BR as ‘They arent remotely decent’
That’s not the case. The Fakour-90 is pretty damn effective from what I’ve seen facing them. The thing is, that yes, they go pitbull so you can see them on RWR, but not every planes RWR is great. And even if it does pick it up, the missile most of the time is traveling ridiculously fast, as it has a long burn time and high top speed, meaning that in most scenarios, you have at most 16 seconds to go defensive and notch it. With Phoenixes, this isn’t a problem because they are so much slower but it is a very real and present threat from the Fakour-90, combined with its big explosive warhead.
Certainly a take. The F-14 IRIAF is better than both the F14A and arguably the F-14B by a decent margin. And pitting it against aircraft like the Mig-23 is just blatantly unfair. At 13.3, aircraft 1 full BR below are almost guaranteed to have at least a meh RWR, meaning they can see it and defend against it. A Mig-23 or F4J with bad RWR cannot effectively defend against a Fakour-90. A Phoenix? Sure, it’s not nearly as fast or as maneuverable, but the Fakour is a whole other beast.
