Hey quit being logical

damn how bad are starstreaks
I’m dreading this thing at 10.0. I already have no counterplay against it (Israel player). How about waiting to see how it performs before asking for further buffs against the very few countries who can. (Oops, didnt mean to reply to this specific comment)
They are niche, but good when employed right. But max range about 7km and the Stormer only has IRST (so clouds are the biggest enemy). But chaff obviously does nothing and the IRST normally ignores flares most of the time.
So you have to get your lead right to nail the target (proviidng the missile doesnt just phase through the target that is, major issue if you have even moderate ping) and the spinning nature of the missiel means its easy to miss smaller targets like drones (recon drones cannot be shot down by them at all)
They are also really really obvious to spot due to them having fake 76mm tracers on them to make them more visible to launch vehicle (IRL its ACLOS and so you shouldnt need to be able to see them)
Vs helis they are pretty decent (there was damage issues, but that should have been fixed with the new heli models) except for their range limitation (LWRs shouldnt be able to detect it but they can in game) but vs aircraft, they are easily dodged by anyone paying attention and forget trying to engage somethign within about 2km, especially if its flying perpindicular to you.
Stormer though is pretty good, small, fast, best optics in game and can scout. With 16 missiles. Makes for a fun vehicle even if the missiels themselves are a bit meh. (Stormer could be upgraded with LMMs)
I can certainly sympathize with that. On the other hand, this is a Israel and SPAA issue as much as it is a F-117 issue.
IMO the BR should be higher, and buffs would help it do so. Then you probably wouldn’t see it as often, depending on which BRs you play.
That’s true, but Gaijin will never give us an SPAA, so i suppose i now just find myself in the situation of immediately not wanting every CAS i won’t have counterplay against lol.
Buffing it and bumping it up would, at the very least, make it more likely for me to have team mates that can counter it though i guess. There is very few SPAA vehicles in the game in a 9.0-10.0 match that could counter this thing.
What is the max range of the 2S38’s IRST gun solution? Because I’ve been hit a long way out by them in my OH58
HE-VT of the 57mm variety, has an effective range of <6km.
The longest-range goes to OTOMATIC, which I can’t comment on cause the last time I died to one was around 2019 and it was around 5.5km.
Hovering targets are another issue.
I’ve fragged a hovering Ka-50 using APFSDS from 5.5km away before the new sights were added.
I was not hovering but actively skirting the battlefield.
Which means a 2S38 certainly could kill an F117
F-117’s range is at least 12km.
I don’t think this is correct. IRST systems should have trouble tracking it, but optical systems should track it reliably, except at night/with a dark background like stormy weather, just due to the contrast the vehicle provides against a clear sky.
Just because a vehicle can’t be locked does not mean it can’t be destroyed. Just eyeball it. It’s a large, slow target that can’t maneuver and can only drop two bombs. Plus it’s very susceptible to enemy air. It won’t be worth the SP to spawn in for most players.
F-117 is defo not a large target and if you are talking about dodging a manually aimed Starstreak at 5-6km, then it barely needs to take any actions to evade that, just turning will throw the aim off completely.
Also all CAS is vulnerable to CAP.
There isn’t really any source that suggests the Nighthawk had significant thermal proofing beyond a cooled exhaust, so any reasonably advanced IRST, or any all aspect IR-Seeker, shouldn’t have much trouble tracking it
Its a very impressive low-observability plane, not magically immune to sensors like the original post in this thread suggests
If someone can take this image of a B-2 (which is more advanced than the F-117) using a hand held thermal sight I imagine larger vehicle mounted IRST systems can see it.
People have a huge misconception about how stealth work. There’s a reason why most modern jey fIghters now equip IRST, and it’s to locate steamth aircafts
I don’t think it should be able to be tracked the way it is now. I think it’s detectable at too far of ranges for what it’s designed for, not to mention the way it’s designed to mitigate its thermal signature (especially the exhausts are designed to essentially spread the signature and dissipate the heat) is implemented pretty poorly in-game. Missiles like the R-73 or AIM-9M for example should be at a lot closer ranges for lock because to me it feels like I’m launching missiles at a regular jet.
i wonder why US stealth is underperforming in a russian game
total mystery
