We? Do you mean germany? Not they arent upgrading their ECRS 1 to the ECRS 2
Yes I do. And the Airforce isn’t upgrading to the Mk.2, but upgrading the Mk.1 itself. That’ll be called ECRS Mk.1 Step 2 (The T4s will be delivered with Step 1)
Bruda, do we have the link to the bug report?
thanks.
1st I am not your Bruda…
2nd, Its currently talked internal if those sources are enough, ones there is an outcome I will share it, be it on the DC or in the EF threads unless the Mod posts the result first :)
1: Yes you are :).
2. Thank you very much.
Technically speaking: Only because a target is >±60° from the center of an AESA antenna doesn’t mean the radar cannot see it anymore instantaneously. AESA can look ±70° or even ±80° off boresight, but the range takes a massive hit the further it closes in on ±90° because the effective antenna surface facing the track is getting smaller. You can see that pretty good the pictures comparing a static AESA with a gimbaled one. The static one has around 50% (~100 km coming from 200 km) of its inital range at ±70° (but not zero) and something around 10-15% (~20-30 km) at ±80° (but still not zero). So in reality even the Mk.2 should reach ±110° FoR even if only at half the range and ±120° at a really close range of 20-30 km (if the radome allows for it).
Sadly gaijin only models fixed scan areas and not range gradient based scan areas. They could adapt the FoR based on the chosen search distance as a workaround but as I know them they would ask for sources for antenna physics that AESA antennas can work beyond ±60° and after that specifically for sources for each AESA antenna you want that implemented. And after that they will say that they don’t think it’s possible and a marketing lie.
2 fixed aesas in game already work beyond 60 degrees, the rafale and the kfir have ±70 degree aesas
So why limit the rest to ±60°? Were there special sources which stated they work at ±70°?
wym limit the rest to 60 degrees?
Not sure, probably @WreckingAres283 would know as he’s the creator of the rafale thread
Aren’t the other AESAs like the one on the F-15 GE (and now on the new EF without its gimbal) limited to ±60° AESA scan area?
Eurofighter without its gimbal gets ± 70 for ecrs mk 2 (irl)
difference between ±30 mechcnical and ±70 electronically is not modeled in game yet, so its effectively ±100 compromised e scan in game
Thats rude…
So the gimbal only adds 30°? Thought it was 40… So my mistake, sorry ^^
±70 (ECRS MK2 brochure)

I belive Kfir’s radar is gimballed
And if you look really close ±80° for extremly short ranges :D
But yeah that angular overlay is really helpful, thanks for that :)
So i have send a Produkt information request to hensoldt, we are gonna see what they answere, i explicitly asked about FoR for Mk1 and Mk2 and the difference in Produkt information from hensoldt.
I will not grind the EF2k if the german one is nerfed lol
Anyways, if i have news i will post them here, i probably wont do the bug report myself
EDIT: Just as a info i made an actual official request with name and all

its not
there is only 4 Gimbaled AESAs in the world and 3 of them are for the Eurofighter
