I got my hopes up when I saw the Lorraine 155 on the splash art, but you guys had to ruin it all over again by not making it a coupon.
Seriously, STOP making these things activate on account only. People want the low level rewards too, make them coupons. This used to be the standard before you decided to make your game worse for no reason.
It’s not a gamble because there’s no gambling involved. You know what you are getting and how much you need to buy it. The only thing in the warbond shop I would call a gamble is the task star system being randomized, though I feel that system shouldn’t exist to begin with.
The SL boxes are gambling because the reward is random, which is made worse by the fact you can’t get them in other places. I would much rather have those old vehicles sold like normal premiums instead of this garbage.
And even then there is no guarantee that they are equally random either (or at all). Its programmatically easy to have some things weighted more heavily, or for it to be completely driven by an algo that calculates what it thinks will keep you reaching for that virtual one armed bandit lever.
The guy I was replying to stated it was gambling. Read his comment before taking mine out of context.
Even if it were as bad of a gamble as he insinuates, being a warbond crate crates makes it infinitely harder to get than an SL crate There’s a limited amount in a long stretch of time, as well as being task-oriented and depending on your battlepass stage.
“It’s not a gamble because there’s no gambling involved”
“The SL boxes are gambling”
Make up your mind?
It is, hence why there are region restrictions to the shop for this game.
Even then, it would be entirely impossible to make all gambling illegal. This entire event is on a f2p basis, and there is no money input to receive a reward.
This column is a little interesting, because I don’t think any of the vehicles have a 1% drop rate, though I could be wrong on that. There’s a lot of nuance to this table that I don’t think is adequately explained, and it’s laid out in a confusing manner.
edit: Unless it’s 0.1%, the image is small and I can’t tell if there’s a decimal in front of it.
So I know it’s not our responsibility to solve all of Gaijin’s problems, but I’m honestly curious how people opposed to SL boxes (again, I personally feel GE boxes are exploitative FOMO garbage, this is just about SL boxes now) would solve this problem.
Before the recent economics update, some players were struggling for SL but others were not. I have generally made more SL than I can possibly spend on just tech tree vehicles, mods and crewing. If not for SL loot crates I’d be well over 100 million SL on account today.
So… What would you substitute that I could spend it on? I have to have some reason, even a superficial one, to collect pointless amounts of SL. What’s the alternate money sink that would give those players to spend their surplus SL on that would be better?
No gotchas here, I’m honestly curious. I don’t like the RNG aspects either. But that kind of late-to-end game player, what could Gaijin sell (for surplus SL) instead?
I think you put it best in your earlier comment, the best solutions have implementation issues. In theory what I would say is, rare or removed vehicles at outrageous SL prices.
I have no problem with the SL lootboxes in principle, but it’s the context that makes it problematic. Vehicles that were made scarce or removed and are only available here, so the RNG is the literal only way you could get them; the fact that their frequency has gone up now with the new event cycle; the fact that we had our first GE lootbox in December and it surely won’t be the last.
Maybe you misunderstood what I said. I meant to chose whatever item we wanted in the WB shop and buy it. No gambling envolved, no random stuff. Just like what happens now with the vehicles.
It’s true that there’s a limit to the maximum amount of WB you can have at the same time, regardless of if you bought the pass or not. But after you spend WB you can always get more by completing tasks. Premium pass only gives you more WB after level 76.
Indeed - the chances of NOT getting that item even once in 100 rolls is 0.000^100 = .9047 - so with 100 rolls you haver about a 9.5% chance of getting it at least once.
I did get a vehicle once in the last season - Type K-8 No 13 Japanese gunboat. But I already have it, and whatever it substituted for it flashed past so fast I didn’t notice!! That’s the only vehicle I’ve ever received in all the seasons, buying 200+ crates every time.
But I find the small RP boosters and the backups to be useful, and for me that’s worth the SL.
Gaijin knows how many active players have how much resources in their account
It would be easy for them to offer various stuff directly and even non tradeable if wanted, for a high(er) price
Profile pictures/Titles
Crew points
Decorations/Decals
Stuff from older Battle Passes
But since there is the marketplace where most would need to spend real money, they have no incentive to use that road and opted for the Gambling instead
So, none of those things have any value to me, right?
Profile pics: have a ton. I would never buy these.
Title: have a ton.
Crew points: already maxed out
Decorations and Decals: since they’re already sold for GE, they’d be reducing GE sales here. But ok, I could certainly see surplus veteran player SL going into decals they don’t have yet.
Stuff from Older Battle Passes: so other than the above, that’s basically vehicles, yeah?
Ok, followup question. Again, I’m just trying to come up with an alternative in my own mind.
What if they had a 20 million SL chest, which always had one vehicle in it (randomized, you wouldn’t know what you got, direct on your account for most, maybe coupons still for some). Would you personally see yourself buying a lot of those? Because that’s the money sink alternative I see, everything else is small change, I think. Open question to anyone. Would that be preferable here?
Such system wouldn’t change anything, at least to me. In total I spent about 50M SL on SL boxes, and I only got one vehicle that I already owned, so it was changed to 1M SL (which is a joke tbh). After that, I decided there is literally no sense to buy these boxes. I prefer to keep SL, just in case it will some day be more useful.
To actually make SL for event vehicles system worth it, they would have to add all event vehicles to a new tab in the shop:
In that tab you would only see event vehicles you don’t own yet. All vehicles would only be account activated (to not allow you to constantly grind SL and just keep selling the rarest vehicles on the marketplace). Event vehicles released within the last year will also be hidden (otherwise it could make more sense to just grind SL instead of grinding events to get the latest event vehicles).
To buy a vehicle there, you would need a vehicle key. Keys could be grouped by vehicle ranks, and you would be able to buy keys with SL (or, if needed, get them from special events etc.). Keys could cost:
If there was such system I would definitely spend a lot of SL on vehicle keys. It would be pretty much - the more you play, the more event vehicles you can get (especially with premium account you can’t lose SL nowadays). This is overall a good system, there are a lot of multiplayer games that give you bonuses for playing the game a lot.
PS. To be fair, the system described would have an impact on vehicle prices on the market. Because 20M SL you can buy for about 45k GE, so about 205€. There will be no sense to buy vehicles released more than a year ago for over 205€ on the marketplace. In my opinion, that’s a positive change as well, but I know many players will disagree with me here (especially players who make a fortune on marketplace speculation).
