The sensible thing to do would’ve been to slap a Mach 1.4 limit on both GBU-39/53, same as the other Mach 1.4-limited munitions USA has. It would still be a supersonic release while remaining consistent with previously established limits.
What really made me genuinely stare at the screen in disbelief was the follow-on sentence: “The report cannot be accepted without precise data on the maximum release speed”. Which, fair enough, isn’t an unreasonable requirement. What I don’t understand is why the change was made in the first place if precise data on the maximum release speed was unavailable. If there wasn’t sufficient data to establish a maximum release speed, what was the basis for settling on Mach 1.1 specifically?
Whatever happened to the usual process of:
add thing → players submit bug reports with sources → BRMs/developers review them → developers make changes if and where appropriate?
There have been even faster launches, I’ve tried them too, but Gaijin wants maximum speed per hardpoint, though they’re selective because the Eurofighter has no limit on Paveway 4, in reality, that speed limit doesn’t exist because modern hardpoints eject the bombs out of the airflow
The example is relevant, Duplet was made to counter the tandem warhead munitions, Relikt was not, yet, it seems that Duplet in game doesn’t exist at all lmao, while Relikt works for some reason while it should be irrelevant due to NOT being able to stop tandem warheads.
I’m really curious where you think the strength of ALARM lies. My friend and I tested it, and it performed terribly… nowhere near as good as HARM.
Its entire flight speed is too slow, making it extremely easy to intercept.
Worst of all, target locking is difficult (it shows up on the RWR, but the missile can’t find the target).
It’s also highly unstable, often losing lock for no apparent reason, or diving after flying over air defense systems only to fail to pull out;
oh, and by the way, this thing is almost unusable within 5 km…
Why is ALARM so much more powerful than AGM88 or even KH31 which is found on aircraft at 11.3?
Maybe if they had their loiter mode, but as a weapon with a notable minimum range and only direct attack, they might actually be some of the harder weapons to use
And why is 5x so OP or is just because it would be able to defeat the Pantsir and that isn’t allowed?
And if 5 is OP then why not 2? The outer pylons would be an extreme restriction but wouldn’t gut the Gr1s performance to absolutely 0
Tornado GR1 is barely usable at 11.3 Vs most 11.3+ SPAA. It needs buffs. Period. Here is the perfect buff. Given the Su39 gets some of the most powerful ARM with no BR increase at all, I just dont understand the issue
However, the trajectory and data performance of this missile are extremely poor. Firstly, its speed is too slow, making it highly susceptible to interception. Secondly, the bug of failing to hit the target due to diving after locking onto the target is particularly evident. Its dive occurs after the missile is launched from the ground and passes above the target
