The B-24 is a very underlooked and ignored plane that needs some more love. The b-17G60 got moved from 5.3 to 5.0 yet the b-24 still sits at 5.7 while being worse in every way. The b-24 is slower, has less guns, cant take nearly as much punishment, and on top of that has early war belts(50. Cals do no damage anyways tho on bombers). On top of that you have to fight spit mk24s j6k1s and yak 15/17s all while the PB4Y sits a full bracket lower with even more guns. At the end of the day the B-24 is an underloved and appreciated plane that needs balancing changes to actually make it competitive(for a bomber but thats a whole issue of its own)
Sadly I can only count on a single hand how many bombers can actually defend themselves, one of them being the G8N1, which you should totally try.
at its new fun BR of 6.3! up from 6.0 because gaijin doesnt know whats going on!
Bombers in the air game seem pointless as they never run in groups as they did in WW2 or with any cover.
Lone bombers were an easy victim in WW2, so many books state this.
Gaijin don’t seem to have given much attention to the actual ARB game by the looks of it.It’s just done as a vague excuse to fly and kill each other in fighters.
There was a time when at least having good crew skills would bag you kills or at least some defence but with Gaijins constant nerfing and tinkering its hard to even get that.
Bombers are good for the occasional game but they seem a waste of RP unless people get a mega bomb for GRB fun.
Even if you run in a group, a lone fighter can clear them all out in one pass, seen it happen due to how weak bombers are & due to their larger surface area meanwhile your MG’s just shit over everywhere due to their spray dispersion.
Yup
There is just so much that Gaijn cant make work. Its not really much of a game is it to be honest? All those vehicles you have to grind thorough and for what purpose?
Bombers in the game, that’s a never-ending story…
Usually there are 4 target bases in the game, there is not one or two large target bases for all bombers, so this already excludes team play…
In the game, apart from Sim, we have short maps good for tactical bombing, symmetrically distributed target points, compensated by airstart, all-revealing markers and mostly beautiful weather…
In addition, controlling the gunner is not easy if the enemy fighters are close and more than one, if the fighter is alone and approaching slowly there is a chance, but thanks to the markers he can shoot at a large, practically meaningless distance, although in this the absence of bombers’ shooting positions, replaced by a 3rd person view, almost equalizes with the fighters…
Just this short list shows that heavy bombers do not have an easy life in the game…
Comparison of B24D with B-17…
- this version in the game came to armament in 1942, so based on that alone it should be equal to the B-17 E/F, definitely not in the slot with the B-17G, there should be more of a B-24H version and maybe a later version…and somewhere in between maybe a PB4Y…
Real pilots’ ratings
- B-17 is more pleasant for the crew than the B-24 in all respects, from normal flight, through durability, to emergency landing
- both could suffer extensive damage and here it turned out the same, the problem occurred during emergency landing, with the B-24 this was quite dangerous
- B17 was better suited to the European theater of operations, B24 to the Pacific theater of operations -
FF was more resistant to German flak and the armament of German aircraft, higher flight level…
Liberator had the advantage of greater range, greater speed and the strength of Japanese flak and the armament of Japanese aircraft was different…
How to fly in the game RB…
I tried using the instructions from the real Wiki and I would say that it can work in the game too…I will choose a few sentences…
- When flying the B-24 it was necessary to get “on step”. This meant climbing to about 500 feet (150 m) above cruising altitude , leveling off, reaching a cruising speed of 165–170 mph (266–274 km/h) and then descending to the assigned altitude.
- A heavily loaded B-24 was difficult to fly at speeds below 160 mph (260 km/h)…
I tried it and… just modified it a bit…
I try to play this way: stay in the game as long as possible, preferably return to base and rearm…
- Climb to 5000 m (in the game there is an airstart at 4200/4500 m), the speed must not fall below 260 km/h, and then a gentle descent (max. -5 degrees from the horizontal axis of the aircraft, this will get you to 350 km/h and I would stick to this)
- I do not use heavier bomb loads, like sets of 500 pound bombs, other bombs seem like a trap to me (too heavy, slow aircraft), destroy one base and return to base, sometimes rearm and ground start work, but that has to be good play the whole team…
Well, as for the crew, I have a crew of 60 points and I’m trying to explore them as much as possible, ideally to get to Ace, sometimes the shooters
shoot and hit something…
This is not a guide in the style that it will always work like this, but it can be played like this…
Good luck in the game…
b-24 in game is a deathtrap. it’s only good as a target.
its my favorite plane the reason I started loving bombers
B-24 only beats B-17g-60-VE on:
Less RP to unlock (27k vs 46k)
reward multiplier (166% VS 160%)
Base weight (16.74 t vs 18.21 t)
Fuel in main tanks (7.51 t (4h 46m) vs 7.58 t (5h 8m))
All bombs carried in the bombay
Quick opening bombay.
B-24 loses to B-17g-60-VE on:
Purchase cost (185k vs 155k)
Climbrate
altitude performance
Engine Power (1,100 hp and 1,190 hp on WEP vs 1,170 hp and 1,350 hp on WEP)
Less defensive positions
Size (bigger target)
So B-24 should be 5.3
while B-17 E/L down to 4.7
and B-17E to 4.3
The B-17 is outclassed in every way since it can’t pull more than 2G in a turn (in fact, it has the lowest structural G-limit of any aircraft in the game). For that reason alone, it should be 3.7 br
Why are you turnin with a bomber?
It does become noticeable when you try to turn back, but past that not really a downside.
Maybe it’s my bomber gameplay, 90% of the time I make to the bases with the B-17s because I climb at 10 degrees and find myself at +6km of altitude, B-24 is a whole other can of worms, I can never never make it to a safe altitude using it.
Turning is essential for a bomber’s survivability. Naturally, performing evasive maneuvers isn’t something typically expected from a bomber (apparently, we’re just supposed to fly straight), but in the current meta, it’s vital if you want to survive or get kills (= win), as you can’t rely on high-altitude elusion or staying undetected. When fighters engage you head-on, success depends on whether or not you can dodge their bursts while forcing forcing an overshoot in a sort of scissors engagement, where you can easily shoot them.
