Ad populum fallacy.
Popularity doesn’t determine anything.
They’re popular because there’s a lack of skilled interceptor playerbase.
You have to remember damage models for aircraft are going to be overhauled for more than just bombers.
Have you ever tried intercepting a bomber with a fighter in SB? It is absurdly easier to take down a fighter using a bomber than the other way around. Unlike fighters, bombers in SB have access to a third-person view by default. Furthermore, since fighters in SB have reduced maneuverability compared to RB, it is difficult for them to dodge defensive turret fire. Of course, skilled players with specialized SB setups can manage to shoot down bombers, but they represent a tiny fraction of the total SB player base. This is exactly what makes them “OP” (overpowered). Just think about newcomers entering SB… what happens when they realize that flying a bomber is far easier than flying a fighter?
Do bombers get the magical turret reload in SB as well? Now they can take some hits it might be time to remove that so they actually have to let fighters get close and make their shots count again, rather then just hosing from 2kms.
