The Auto-Weathering Changes Need To Be Reverted

On the current iteration of the DEV-Server, changes were made to how driving through terrain affects the weathering of vehicles, i.e. how, where and how much dirt, mud etc. is applied to the vehicles automatically.

This is not new per se but the recent changes have gone WAY too far and should, in my opinion, just be reverted as I do not see any way that these can be justified.

For example, the new weathering effects of a gepard after driving through grass (and the dirt road) in the test-drive:

Also do note, that the mud is not equally applied to the entire tank at once, sometimes certain parts are just completely ignored, leading to extremely poor visuals.

Sometimes, it’s also only one side of the tank that gets dirty, wheras the other side looks like it has just been polished:
This is the same Gepard, just from the other side:

In this example, I have not even made it past the river and yet the tank already looks like it has just been excavated out of a swamp.

On a Leopard 2A7V:

In my opinion, this change is just WAY over the top and neither looks good, nor works with the idea of having special camouflages (marketplace skins) available for sale, when driving a whopping 10m already covers the entire tank with ugly mud.

Same thing goes for userskins, which I do not appreciate either, as I kinda use them because I want to give my tank a specific look that I can largely retain during battles and not to have it instantly covered by mud.

Another example A Leopard 2PL w/ Winter camo

I do understand that this may a subjective take, so I am interested to see what others think about these changes.

While this is definitely going too far, I think the best possible answer would just make it a slider / toggle setting as to how much you want to see, if at all, I cannot think of a reason that wouldn’t be possible.

Yeah that’d be ideal but I do not know how much effort it’d take to implement thus as a stop-gap solution, I’d argue that it should be reverted for the time being.

The current system on live-server already makes taking screenshots for a.o. userskins, that often already have basic weathering applied (which takes a ton of effort to do well) very annoying.

So a client-side toggle would be able to solve the issue entirely, albeit with more dev-side efforts, which I do believe we can reasonably ask for though.

Turning textures to low makes the “mud” not appear, at least on dev.
