The ESSM was test fired first time back in 2016-17(?), and in 2024 they test fired an AMRAAMER with an improved motor and controll stack, produced by NAMMO.

Can’t you make the same report now for aim-120c-7 in Sam launch role? They rejected it for amraam-er but I don’t see why you can’t make one for the C-7

The overall reason from my understanding is that it’s cheaper for the AMRAAM-ER to have a different guidance section and more compatible with the NASAMS (I could be wrong about this part so feel free to correct me). Additionally, the sections are different because the AMRAAM-ER’s guidance section is that of the AIM-120C8 and the ESSM is well, the full thing of the ESSM, they share the same motor

But if the ESSM rocket motor is 25 cm in diameter, and the guidance unit of the AMRAAM is 17 cm, these two photos of the AMRAAM-ER should be similar, no? One is visibly wider at the guidance section than the other, and one looks to have a longer guidance section.
Or is it just that they are either renders that are edited with the wrong dimensions, or not AMRAAM-ERs at all?
