Since we probably won’t ever get the Montana’s, i think this would be a good compromise, Because These things actually started construction, and actually got Farther along than the Sevastopol’s, or the Soyuz.
and the things would be a BEAST, 12, Long barrel 16in Guns, That would out perform even the Iowa’s. And they had pretty damn good armor. Plus the way the Magazines and such were laid out was absolutely genius. They would be FAR more durable than the earlier standard types they are based off of.
It would be VERY close in firepower, infact in a Full broadside Dual, the OG SouDaks would rival the Yamatos in pure weight of Broadside, and be firing their shells at MUCH higher Velocities.
The problem is that they are HORRIBLY slow, like all of the American standard types.
IT would be slinging 12, 2,200 pound AP projectiles, down range at over 800M/s
While the Yamato can throw only 9 (But heavier) rounds down range at a pitiful 690M/s
this would be good ship after USS Alaska 7.7 br?
slinging 12, 2,200 pound AP projectiles, down range at over 800M/s o.o this will easily defeat Bismark
how much is the reload rate XD?
No, it should go after Colorado. Because it is the direct evolution of the Colorado class Battleships.
You could EASILY put The Lexington Class battle cruisers (Which were canceled and the hulls reworked into the Lexington Class aircraft carriers) After the Alaska.
They would have the same GUNS as the South Dakota here, But only 8 of them. But be exceptionally fast, with the trade off of much weaker armor.
That this is legitimately MORE real, than the Sevastpol, or Soyuz.
they had 6 of these things on the blocks being built when the Washington Naval Treaty came into effect and killed the project. and 3 of them were nearly 40% complete, and ready to go off the blocks into proper fitting.
When they were scrapped their boilers and such were used to upgrade older battleships.
Not at all.
Ingame Iowa is about 580 mm RHA effective even in vertical thanks to spaced armor, while this thing is just 343 mm RCA single plate(=377 mm RHA effective)
Also, while in blueprint without description of barbette inside it seems like shell room is under barbette, but OG 120s SD class also has shell room in barbette too.
Nope, the blueprints have it so both the Powder, and shells are stored deep down in the magazines, Like British Battleships.
And the way the secondary battery works is genius IMO, with all of their ammo also being stored in the Magazines, and fed to the guns via a Conveyer network through the ship.
The only things in the barbettes was the handling rooms them selves.
And the magazines them selves were far deeper in the ship than the earlier American standard types. On the lowest level possible, much like the British did.
While yes it is true they set on the same platform, the South Dakota’s were designed to set lower in the water, which provided better protection for the Magazines.
The SouDaks had their entire machinery suite fitted, most of their armor, and the turrets and guns were produced and ready.
The Soyuz never even had a single boiler fitted let alone a turbine, and only a single 16in gun was made, and had a huge manufacturing defect which meant they had to cut like 15 feet off the barrel.
Soyuz was 19% done when it was scrapped on the blocks, It wasn’t even water tight.
The Soudaks were.
And don’t even get me started on the fact the Soyuz in game has armor that physically was incapable of being made by the Russians.
