Agree re: gunpods…

But the AIM-4D should be marginally better than the AIM-4G since it is faster. Would make some difference for the 102A since it doesn’t have the performance or guns of the 106A.

I may be wrong, but I’ve seen some analysis from other posters showing that the way SARH missiles home on a target is to blame. Apparently they aim for the aircraft’s center of mass, which may mathematically exist in empty space for some aircraft (like the Tu-95M with its huge vertical stabilizer). This doesn’t really matter for missiles with a proxy fuse, but it does for the AIM-4F which requires a direct hit.

I personally have no problems with the AIM-4G (IR) when used optimally. Not saying it’s great, but I can definitely consistently hit enemies who are stalling out or not maneuvering.

I have yet to get the AIM-4F (SARH) to hit in an actual match even under ideal conditions.

the aim4f is worthless

That’s because pulse guided missiles stop tracking within 150 meters of the target, which makes it that much more difficult for a non proxy fuse missile to hit the target. I understand why the developers made that mistake, but it’s a bug nonetheless:

I believe they also did the drag change to the 28

So that makes J35XS like a little 10.3 JA37C?

Missing the goated radar but yeah pretty much, gonna be nice to pick on scrubs that don’t know how to defend against radar missiles

just scrubs without chaff

Most scrubs don’t bring chaff tbh

It’s me. I’m scrub.

Having slightly better range is nice, but it’s still the same seeker and the same lack of proxy. I have those missiles on the F-106, and I get worse results with them than with the AIM-9B.

I managed once shot down Tu-95M with AIM-4F but must shot two missiles because first missed.

They seem to have confused RB 27 and RB 28. The changes they did swapped over the drag and motor characteristics

this is just the RB27 being swapped from an AIM-4G placeholder FM to the existing AIM-26 FM

we do not have the AIM-4D, we have the AIM-4G which is inferior in many sutiations

Me too tbh

Just realized there’s no F-106 thread

There is one though.

although it’s not a machinery of war discussion?
