The AIM-120 'AMRAAM' - History, Design, Performance & Discussion

iirc its both i think
it has another 5 inch rocket motor and again the logically improve rocket fuel for higher thrust

yeah F3R allows for a tad bit more fuel

there was a debate back then about that, it seems C-5 already uses the 5 incher motor

+5" was added with the c-5. D-3 which is after F3R, added more fuel by shrinking electronics.

in game 120D has 180s of battery life, D-3 might up it to 240s? Wonder how much will be in the AIM-260, hope i still alive when these infos come out

Honestly idk if the d-3 got an even longer battery life. Just that its received software improvements to increase range and Pk at the ends of its engagement envelope.

I didn’t say that.
I said the +5" motor was introduced with c-5. The same motor still on 120d and d-3, just that d-3 got slightly more propellant, just we don’t know how much exactly.

i think i replied to the wrong person someone said the 120D got another 5 inch

That was the other dude yeah. :P

what no, first metions of the 5 inch were with the C-5/C-7, unless you can provide sources which state the 120D somehow got another 5 inch

if D-3 has .75s more of thrust it would increase the top speed from mach 3.71 to mach 3.96, using 10km altitude and 1200km/h launch speed, quite decent
1.25s more would increase to mach 4.12

At the very least, it should compensate for the extra weight of the GNSS electronics.

AMRAAM fin AoA from that one drone launch video that’s being shared around

image

15 degrees of fin AoA (what the missile has in-game) demonstrated on the AMRAAM model at a very similar camera angle.

30 degrees of fin AoA demonstrated on the AMRAAM model at a very similar camera angle.

I’ll let you be the judge of which one clearly looks a lot closer.

P.S: The fins clearly rotate past the datalink antenna in the video, while at 15 degrees of AoA they are very much so behind it still.

Wow i had considered doing this myself but after seeing them shoot down the bug report i figured it was a waste of time
Amazing work man

well that’s something worth reporting XD

Another comparison, this time with a lot more precise perspective alignment. At least to me the verdict is pretty clear.

15 degrees (ingame)

30 degrees

Unfortunately, this is probably gonna count as player measurement as well if you end up reporting it. But I am glad I wasn’t too far off the mark.

and the video doesnt even have that great of frame rate, it could easily go past that point just not recorded as such in the video
