Exactly. IIR may come in handy in low light situations and weather, but those are quite rare in WT.
Like the fuel tanks: WT map size makes them irrelevant. IRL they are mainly used for ferry flights over large distances, not for combat in your own front yard…
This is no longer that relevant anymore. AGM-65D zoom is now better, having variable ~25x-50x vs 30x fixed on the 65B. Though I would still like 65Bs, simply because they are cheaper to spawn, since that distinction got made since release as well.
Having GBU-8s is also cool, although kinda meh on the A-10 platform.
65D zoom level is sole reason i grinded A-7E with LANA pod; only to realize Walleyes are somewhat…moody when it comes to actually getting of the rail.
huh, really now? need to check.
I tried it out: It is better, yes, but still easier to ID targets with the 65B, in my opinion.
And tracking range of course, with most TV missiles having ~6km tracking range. Though I suppose not nearly as relevant on the A-10. But it comes into play for those 8km shots, maybe 10km, if you do decide to climb a bit. Believe you needed 2-3km of altitude to reliably get those ranges 10km+ launches th, where the IIR tracking range really comes into play.
65B has way lower locking range (about 6km) then 65D, therefore useless for moving targets.
How so? Zoom wise they are pretty similar, with the 65D having variable zoom that allows it to exceed that of the fixed zoom 65B. Found that to pretty useful checking for vehicle wrecks. If it’s the IR channel resolution, you can always turn that off to go back to the TV channel (though it shouldn’t be there realistically).
I actually dont agree. My previous comment was based on the old zoom levels, but with these new ones, 65Ds are now way better than 65Bs.
65D base zoom:
Zoomed in:
Thermals:
vs.
65Bs:
65Ds clearly has better zoom now, on top of having IR.
yes but my comment was based on their original zoom before it was changed recently - and believe me, CRT TV we had 30 years ago had way picture than the old 65Ds.
the new zoom levels are massive improvement.
on unrelated sidenote im replacing A-7E back with A-10A late immidiately.

I think the A-10 better replaces the A-7D, not the 7E (which I find is a better base bomber in SIM because of LANA FLIR)… ;-)
I’m gonna take a wild guess and say you probably haven’t played any other jets in this tier…
Ah, i see. Im GRB player, i use aircraft/helicopters mostly as CAS so aircraft/helicopter needs to be good at it. And A-7E did not convince me its good CAS plane.
LANA is great, but the walleyes got me killed more times than id like to admit. Its combination of some weird tracking issue where pod shows me it tracks, i switch to 3rd person to drop and it doesnt go off rails because it suddenly stopped tracking; and their range issue. You can just let mavericks rip, but walleyes require some finesse to use, which takes time - and time is something you dont have while being exposed in contested airspace.
Imo I would like to see older aircraft get revamped loadout options given new ord is still being added, yet, normally only new aircraft get such.
EG the A-10A still cant take a full hydra 70 loadout, and it’s still missing MERs on two of the centerline pylons.
Another example is the F-5C still being stuck with AIM-9Es at 10.7, while the new NF-5A at the same exact BR sports AIM-9Js and Ns, or the Swiss F/A-18C premium rocking EGBUs at the same BR as the US F/A-18C early premium and so on.
Revamp older aircraft loadouts plz if newer, sometimes nearly identical vehicles that are being added are getting such improvements.
Might be a problem with you moving your nose around too much after locking, these weapons have pretty low tracking rate, so they can’t keep up with rapid changes like that. I used to never have this problem though, but it may be because in the past tracking rate didn’t apply yet before launch even in tracking state. Otherwise maybe a bug.
That was first thing that came to mind when it happened the first time, but seems its not the case. Its also strange that walleyes are the sole weapon system that i have this issue with.
might be, but im not bothered that much by it as to make bug report myself.
New zoom does not change thing… B were good for stationary tanks is ASB but not much more.
D always has been superior.
matter of personal preference then. I had such bad time with 65Ds zoom i even considered buying A-10A early. Glad thats no longer the case.
