The a-10a

Hello Gaijin team,

First of all, I want to say how much I enjoy War Thunder. I’m a huge fan of the game, and one of my favorite aircraft is the A-10A. I purchased the Premium A-10A for $70 because I love the plane and wanted to support the game — but I feel there’s an issue that deserves attention.

Right now, the tech tree variants of the A-10A seem to outperform the Premium version in key areas, especially in terms of loadout flexibility and missile count. As a Premium vehicle, I believe it should be more competitive or at least on par with the tech tree versions. Given the price point, it would be great if the Premium A-10A could be updated to include a more versatile and complete loadout — perhaps combining elements from both tech tree variants. For example:

  • 2 AIM-9s on each wing (total of 4),
  • Optional drop tanks or better countermeasure options,
  • Or simply a loadout configuration that makes it feel like a unique, powerful choice rather than a downgrade.

This would make the Premium A-10A a more attractive and rewarding purchase for players who support the game.

Thank you for your time, and for all the work you put into developing and maintaining War Thunder. I really enjoy the game and look forward to seeing it continue to grow!

Best regards, Jonathon

No one will redo or upgrade anything unless there are some sources that prove that gaijin made a mistake. The maximum you can get is a new copy of the tech tree version as premium.

Yeah because the premium version is also at a lower BR.

The premium trades off the 4 missiles for 2 and 2 gunpods and its at a slightly lower br compares to the TT one

This wouldn’t be very useful due to its lowest fuel amount lasting the entire match

No. Prems of the old age are designed to be a bit worse; later updates made better and worse coexist. They’ve drained enough money from a10s btw

No we have had enough a10c. Also will make speed more a problem

Could be but not very useful

What else can be given than 480 mixed?

Was the 65B till they buffed 65D. vulcan pod could be one. Maybe some CBU can be added?

It has 2 of them

You realise the premium is the early version of the A-10a at a lower br? The tech tree is the late version

Next time your thinking of buying a vehicle, compare it to the tech tree version (if there is one) via the wiki

vulcan pods could be one unique choice

it is, the premium one carries 2 of them on its 2 centerline pylons

It is limited to 2 so that it can be 10.3. Increasing to 4 would increase its BR to 10.7. Imo, a lower BR is more valuable for ground attackers than anything else.

Will come when they come. Many many aircraft have been waiting years. Just like the A-10

It has 480. How many do you want at a BR where most have 60 or less

IIRC that was an active descision to set the premium apart from tech tree. Also, I’ve et to see a single photo of a real world Warthog with 4 Sidewinders’s always two Sidewinders and an ECM pod on the opposite side…

Quite irrrelevant in WT map sizes: endurance is excellent even for prolonged fights.

You always got a very large number of countermesaures! Don’t remember a single case where I ran dry…

I actually prefer the Early to the Late, mainly because of the AGM-65B, which allow to identify targets at longer distances than the IIR AGM-65D - which is especially important when going after air defense - the most dangerous enemy of the Warthog!

what do you mean “better countermeasure options”? A-10 has more CMs than some top tier jets.

also A-10A early has, arguably, better mavericks than the A-10A late.

Sure A-10A late gets AGM-65Ds

Spoiler

deez nutz lmao

with thermals which technically make it better as it can accquire targets faster and in bad weather conditions but 65Bs have much better zoom, making them actually more suited for long range shots.

Exactly. IIR may come in handy in low light situations and weather, but those are quite rare in WT.

Like the fuel tanks: WT map size makes them irrelevant. IRL they are mainly used for ferry flights over large distances, not for combat in your own front yard…

This is no longer that relevant anymore. AGM-65D zoom is now better, having variable ~25x-50x vs 30x fixed on the 65B. Though I would still like 65Bs, simply because they are cheaper to spawn, since that distinction got made since release as well.

Having GBU-8s is also cool, although kinda meh on the A-10 platform.

65D zoom level is sole reason i grinded A-7E with LANA pod; only to realize Walleyes are somewhat…moody when it comes to actually getting of the rail.

huh, really now? need to check.

I tried it out: It is better, yes, but still easier to ID targets with the 65B, in my opinion.

And tracking range of course, with most TV missiles having ~6km tracking range. Though I suppose not nearly as relevant on the A-10. But it comes into play for those 8km shots, maybe 10km, if you do decide to climb a bit. Believe you needed 2-3km of altitude to reliably get those ranges 10km+ launches th, where the IIR tracking range really comes into play.

65B has way lower locking range (about 6km) then 65D, therefore useless for moving targets.
